Florian Super Round logo

The Florian Super Round is an annual event organised by the FRFL which an entire round of Super League matches are played over a weekend at a single stadium to promote the sport of rugby league. The venue usually being abroad. Viten Arena, Freeland hosted the inaugural event in 2018. From 2019, the event will be known as the Super Round as matches will now not only just be played on the weekend.

Concept

The concept of the Florian Super Round was confirmed in December 2017 after a vote to scrap the Super League Nines. A joint proposal from clubs was launched about an extra round of matches being played in a country which is not usually associated with the sport of rugby league. The Freeland rugby League Federation was invited to host the host inaugural which was accepted. Matches will be played at an expanded Viten Arena.

2018

Viten

For the inaugural version of the event, four league matches took place on Saturday and the remaining four on Sunday. Matches will be played at a expanded Viten Arena. The first event was a huge success with both days attracting capacity crowds.

Viten

For the second version of the event, Viten will once again host the event. This time, however, the event will be held in the brand new rugby stadium in the city. One match will be played on Thursday and two matches will be played on Friday. The remaining six league matches will take place on Saturday and Sunday.

Newhedge

The 2020 Florian Super Round will be the first time that the event has not been held abroad. The Event will be hosted at the Kethcup Field, home of FNFL franchise, Newhedge Steelers. After previously choosing games that were local derbies or competitive games, in 2020 the fixtures will be determined by the previous seasons league position.

From 2021, the event will be played at Steinfield, home of Super League Football team, Longsight FC.
