Location of Penguinfels within south western Walstadt and Light

Penguinfels or Pinguinfels (Sangunese: 企鵝石 Kigazeki, sometimes transliterated Kigaseki), officially the Lordship of Penguinfels (Saxon: Herrschaft Penguinfels; Sangunese: 企鵝石領 Kigazeki-ryō), is a lordship in the Walstadt and Light jurisdiction of the Aemilian Federation. The sole remaining feudal lordship of Whales, it is held by Mina Penguinwaffels.

Manor of Penguinfels

Manor of Penguinfels, c. 1740

In the southern part of the lordship lies the Manor of Penguinfels. It was built during the lordship of Eberhard Blutwasser, 1624–1631, in a simple and austere ranch style. Last renovated in the late 1680s by Prince Kir, it entered a sorry state by the 1740's when control over it was taken over by Mina Penguinwaffels.

Locals considered that it had started to resemble more of a derelict farmhouse than the stately home Mina deserved, with goats and snow kangaroos roaming the gardens that had been so tastefully designed by Eberhard Blutwasser. As such, the local school of Penguinfels decided to organise a charity event to raise money for a renovation of the estate. The total sum that was gathered was rather modest, 4,781 Großpfennig, but Mina Penguinwaffels was moved by the gesture and the singing of the school children and decided to fund the rest of the restoration herself. As part of the fundraiser, the school children had been asked to make drawings of what they hoped the estate would look like after the restoration, and Mina picked the drawing of a castle as a template for the restoration.

List of lords

Succession

In 1696, Kir wrote in his will that upon his demise, the lordship of Kigazeki would pass to his second-eldest son, Jirō, as Ichirō, the eldest would inherit the principality. This happened in 1703 upon the untimely death of Kir.

Jirō issued a will in 1713 in which he stipulated that succession to the lordship of Kigazeki would be vested in his legitimate descendants, without discrimination of gender, under the principle of absolute primogeniture, and in the event of his line being extinct it would pass to the legitimate descendants of his father. In 1743, Jirō abdicated the lordship in favour of his daughter, Mina.

Prior to 1743, the order of succession was:

  1. Yukio, her cousin
  2. Sechigu, her cousin
  3. Sehoshi, her cousin
  4. Enhei, her aunt
  5. Ytro, her cousin
  6. Anastasia, her cousin

At the request of the Aemilian authorities, in 1743 AN the succession was limited to liches. Between 1743 AN and 1746 AN, there was no one in the order of succession eligible to succeed. As of 1746 AN, the order of succession is:

  1. Electra Penguinwaffels, her daughter

Heraldry

Image Description
Coat of arms of the Lordship of Penguinfels: Per Chevron Or and Argent a Chevronel Sable between in chief a Torteau and in base two Penguins respectant proper.

An example of canting heraldry, the shield of Penguinfels depicts two penguins embracing in front of a snow-clad rock (as marked by the black chevronel) in allusion to the name of lordship, which means "penguin rock" in both Saxon and Sangunese. Above the rock is a yellow sky with a red setting sun; the sun is taken from Sangunese mythology, and the yellow sky reflects how atmospheric conditions make the sky appear on certain evenings in Penguinfels.
