Twelfth Senate

The twelfth Senate of the Lakes was inaugurated on 13.I.1728 (originally scheduled for 1.I.1728), supplanting the eleventh Senate.

The twelfth Senate has 20 members. It is expected to be replaced by the Thirteenth Senate in 1734.

1731	2	13	The Senate of the Lakes, grateful for the friendship that Luca Zarrella has consistently shown Hurmu and the Order of the Holy Lakes, both through his premiership and presidency in Vegno and through his presidency of the Micras Federation of Motorsport which has brought invaluable investments to Hurmu through the Hurmu Grand Prix, acknowledges thus its moral debt to Mr Zarrella and makes hereby known that on this day, the Senate of the Lakes bestows upon Luca Zarrella, born in Mhazar in 1656, the title, degree and dignity of Knight of the Holy Lakes, for him to hold and be extended to his spouse and children, and so on, forever more. 1733	13	21	Assassination of Deiniol. The Senate met to eulogise the late prince-senator, hold a minute of silence, and offer condolences to his friends and family and to the Calbain nation. Due to rumours of high officials being implicated, the Senate resolved to recall its ambassador from Calbion for consultations.
1734	2	18	Resolution to dissolve the twelfth session of the Senate The Senate, having received a report on the conduct of the election, and having received no reports of irregularities during the election, resolves as follows: 1. The twelfth session of the Senate is hereby dissolved. 2. The Commander of the Order is directed to invite the members, permanent as well as elected, of the thirteenth session of the Senate to meet at the Palace of the Elenaran for deliberations on the first day of the first month following the adoption of this resolution. The Commander shall ensure that all members of the next Senate have the appropriate permissions, to ensure a peaceful and smooth transition. 3. The Journal of the 12th Senate is deemed approved 4. The Senate thanks the outgoing Senators, viz. Ghawetkiin Enkhjargal, Khanum of Lontinien (having served since 1695), Khoga Checheyigen (having served since 1713), Roya al-Osman (having served 1713–1718 and since 1720), Sackhcham Kapudia (having served since 1719), Catherine Wythe, Dowager Countess of Woodshire (having served since 1719), Sooraj Wasli (having served since 1726), and Mari Torismonion Verion de Montfort (having served since 1733), for their sacrifice and service to the Order of the Holy Lakes throughout their tenures in the Senate. 1734	2	18	Valedictorian Speech by the Princess Chancellor: Distinguished Senators, these past few years, it has been my honor and privilege to preside over this Senate. In such a short time, we have accomplished much, and while there is still a lot to be done, I am content, and grateful, for the unity, teamwork, respect, and cooperation shown within these hallowed halls. Debate may have been pointed and at times, acrimonious, but this goes to show the principles that senators have, and the passions with which we defend them. While I would personally like to serve another term - I am, after all, but a humble servant of this Senate, and of the Order in general - I must respectfully decline nominations as your Chancellor for the next Senate. As everyone knows, my beloved mother, the Basilinna Esmeralda, Princess of Arboria, and a host of other titles, grows in age and grace, and while my brother has been taking on greater roles in the Imperial State of Constancia, I, too, must focus on Arboria and assist my sovereign mother with her many other tasks and duties, which can be burdensome. Plus, as you all know, I, too am a mother, and while my children are grown, I must admit that they still require my affection and guidance. Senators, I must publicly thank my beloved husband for remaining at my side during these trying times, for the burdens of high office can truly be challenging, and it is only with the grace, and love, of a committed partner that one can surmount these challenges. I value his quiet service and counsel, not merely as my husband, but as a colleague and fellow senator, and in turn, he has learned a lot from me. I endorse him as your next Chancellor, if it please the Senate. I thank you all for your kindnesses during this term. May the Order, Hurmu, and the Senate grow stronger. Hurmu prevails!
