The Armed trawler is a fishing vessel adapted from civilian use that has been equipped with a suitable armament and fitted out for naval purposes. As robust ocean-going vessels with large clear working decks, trawlers were particularly suited for conversion as naval auxiliaries - particularly in order to serve as harbour defence vessels, minelayers and minesweepers, patrol vessels, and as submarine chasers.
Valued by the navies of the Raspur Pact for their affordability, utility, and versatility, the use of armed trawlers is especially prolific amongst the Florian Navy, Fisheries Protection Group and the Maritime Support Group.
