Potosí is the capital city of Santander, a core region of Nouvelle Alexandrie. It sits in the middle of the fertile Potosí Flatlands, surrounded by the Paíz Real Hills. The city is the fourth most populous in the federation, after Punta Santiago, Cárdenas, and Parap. It has a population of 434,912 (1710 AN). Its highest elevation is around 2,100m (6,900 ft). The river Morano flows through the city center, dividing the city in two. Most of the city is on the northern banks of the river, with development being much newer on the south side.
The city is an historical and cultural center of the Alexandrian Culture, and a major economic source for the Federation. It is known for possessing much of the national financial sector, in a district known simply as 'Los Bancos'. Another eyecather is the ancient Alexandrian fort of Fuerte Santander.
The city of Potosí is not only the regional capital, but also the capital of the State of País Real, a state of Santander. The city is subdivided into wards.
