Kobol

Kobol is a city within The Hexarchy that serves as the capital for the region known colloquially as the Eventide Islands. The city proper sits on an island in the middle of a vast, rocky estuary that was once geologically part of the mainland. Formerly a single mountain (or a set of such), the island was one of many slowly carved out by the flow of the Great River.

The city plays host to the Council of Six, the Hexarchy's highest legislative body, for the winter months of the year (when the weather still remains mild). However, the Council has been increasingly holding meetings on the mainland, occasionally meeting in nearby Enkidu due to growing ease of air-based transportation between it and the northern regions versus Kobol.

Until 1688, Kobol played host to the largest port in the nation. However, it lost this distinction when the Port and City of Ashtaroth neared completion enough to warrant formal trade agreements with foreign powers. While Kobol still receives by far the bulk of major trade from Alduria-Wechua by virtue of its many natural deep-water harbors and close proximity to its mainland Keltian coastlines), Ashtaroth now represents most of the country's long-distance trade. As of 1690, Kobol is the third-largest seaport in the nation after Ashtaroth and Enkidu (thanks solely to its domestic, internal trade). (Marduk still remains the largest internal port in the nation, thanks to its brown-water navy.)

Kobol also plays host to the Kobol Stadium, a massive structure dedicated solely to the sport of association football. The stadium hosts all championship matches for the Six Nations League, and by contract is the home stadium of the winning team for purposes of international competitions -- regardless of which team reigns as the year's champion. The Stadium was fully opened to the general public in early 1690 AN and has seating capacity for exactly 66,066 people (with zero standing room permitted due to overcrowding concerns on the island in case of emergencies).
