The Sanaman Coast Guard (Third Republic) is the federal agency responsible for coastal patrol, maritime law enforcement and search and rescue. It operates in close cooperation with the Sanaman Navy.
Organisation
The Coast Guard is organised into three sectors, which in turn are divided into several districts. The main Coast Guard bases are colocated with the Naval Stations of the Navy.
Equipment
The ships and boats of the Coast Guard are mostly inherited from the Sanaman Navy or civilian craft that have been converted to Coast Guard standard. With the introduction in 1681 of the Melusine II in the Navy, several Coastal Patrol Boats are expected to be transferred. The Navy is also introducing the Next Generation Corvette in the future, and several Elwynn-class ships are expected to be handed over to the Coast Guard. This is meant to fill the need for a helicopter carrying ship, since the Coast Guard currently uses poorly adapted civilian ships for that purpose. The Elwynns are meant to be converted to search and rescue platforms. Four Melusine-class ships were transferred from the Navy in 1681 and converted to Coast Guard standard. They will primarily be used for law enforcement, patrol and search and rescue. The Coastal Patrol Craft transferred from the Navy underwent modification at SMI, adding a lightweight aluminium superstructure, removing all armament but one 20 mm gun, adding two Polybolos 12.7 mm machine guns, and an inflatable boat.
