The '''Abre''' ([[Præta language|Pr.]] ''Abra'' "Pint") is a unit of volume or capacity used throughout Eastern Benacia. Within the [[Imperial Republic of Shireroth]], there are two legally-recognized and standardized kinds of Abre: Common and Noble. The Common Abre equals 440 mL and is divided into 4 gills or 80 drams. The Noble Abre is 513.7 mL and is divided into 93.4 drams.

The two divergent volumes for an Abre derive from the mid-1500s AN, shortly after the introduction of VAT. Nobles argued that, since the law of Shireroth had exempted nobles from VAT, they were allowed a larger pint of beer for the same sum of money. Sumptuary laws were later passed to prevent denizens from being allowed to pay more so that they might use of the new Noble's Abre. VAT, being defined for alcohol as thirty-three parts of one-hundred and ninety-seven, or 16.751%, is the difference between the two measures.

The Common Abre (''Apir'' in [[Sanaman language|Sanaman]]) is also in use in [[Sanama]] for certain goods, such as milk and beer.
