Imperator Problematicus is a writer in history who is said to have been the monarch of the Benacian Empire in ancient history, although this has not been verified. Most of what we know about Imperator Problematicus is derived from his autobiographical works. Their autobiographies are written in the Catologian language, but riddled with spelling errors, grammatical errors and inconsistencies in the narrative. They discuss how their father, who is only named using a pejorative term, was also a Benacian emperor tried to raise them as a worthy successor to the throne of the Benacian Empire, and later how they reigned for less than a year. The autobiography ends with the assassination of Imperator Problematicus and their funeral, still written in the first person. Scraps of other writers have been found in archeological projects in Benacium, most of them calling the reign of the emperor shameful, one writer even suggests that the name Problematicus needs to be removed from all works of history, so that their name would be forgotten for all of eternity. Both Imperator Problematicus and their critics agree that they found that they were more interested in fashion, music and the carnal entertainment of men than in the waging of war, but disagree whether this was a good thing or not.

In Aemilian society the discovery of the writings of Imperator Problematicus occurred when the ghost ship Imperator Problematicus, an early Benacian trireme, that had been sailing abandoned over the seas of Micras for millennia, moored in the harbour of Sankt Rosa in 1726. The diary of the emperor was found aboard and caused a sensation. Since then, Imperator Problematicus is considered to be iconic, especially because of the lgbtqia+ issues they raised, and the emperor is celebrated as one of the saints of Micran history. The official language of the confederation, Problematic, is derived from the writings of Imperator Problematicus.
