The terrain of Matamoros is dominated by rainforests. These rainforests are some of the most biodiverse in [[Keltia]], with over a million species of fauna documented within the area. In order to protect this ecosystem, a committee is in the process of being established by the PGRM in order to protect the habitats of the animals living in the jungles of the country.

By virtue of having the largest continental possessions on the Keltian continent at its inception the {{PAGENAME}} was controlled by the [[Natopian Defense Force]]. Established in 1646 AN, it's first mobilisation occurred in 1655 as the [[War of Lost Brothers]] became global in scale. Sometimes known as the '''Forgotten Command''' in contrast to better resourced counterparts in [[Apollonia]], [[Benacia]], [[Tapfer]] and [[Trans-Eura]], it nonetheless imbued itself with the martial ethos of [[Normark]], in whose lands it was established, and made a vital contribution to the emerging world war against [[Passio-Corum|Passio-Corum]].

Following the collapse of the Great Enterprise of Keltia, the Command was rent by schism as former Steward [[shire:Waldemar Zinkgraven|Burgrave Zinkgraven]] refused to heed the summons of his [[shire:Mira Octavius-Aryani| successor]] to return to [[shire:Shirekeep|Shirekeep]] and face the [[shire:Chamber of the Crypteia|inquiry]] into his conduct. By the end of 1737 AN, Anahuaco had functionally ceased to exist as a result of the [[East Keltian Collapse]]. Despite efforts by the international community to evacuate the remaining population to other countries, many Matamorano citizens remained in the nation's former territories, either by choice or inability to leave. In the years that followed, a patchwork of local governments emerged to control what was left of the land and resources, particularly around the valuable ore deposits of the foothills and fertile fields of the coast. [[Santiago Alguacil]], Imperial bureaucrat and a native Matamorano, looked at the situation his home state found itself in and saw an opportunity that could (in theory) benefit himself, his country, and his masters.

==Geography==
The terrain of Matamoros is dominated by rainforests. These rainforests are some of the most biodiverse in [[Keltia]], with over a million species of fauna documented within the area. In order to protect this ecosystem, a committee is in the process of being established by the PGRM in order to protect the habitats of the animals living in the jungles of the country.

The coastal regions are mostly plains cleared out over decades of settlement for use as farmland. These plains feed the majority of the people who live in Matamoros. Following the East Keltian Collapse, however, some of these plains have been reclaimed by the rainforest.

The hills to the far north, aside from serving as a basic form of frontier defense, are also home to the copper mines that generate much of the region's wealth.

Politics in the PGRM largely revolve around its leader, Santiago Alguacil. While nominally checked by the other parts of the government, he has appointed their members and, as such, they are largely loyal to him. As of early 1743, the most significant organ of government in the Provisional Government is the Constitutional Committee, tasked with drafting the founding charter of the new nation.

===Establishment===
By the end of 1737 AN, Anahuaco had functionally ceased to exist as a result of the [[East Keltian Collapse]]. Despite efforts by the international community to evacuate the remaining population to other countries, many Matamorano citizens remained in the nation's former territories, either by choice or inability to leave. In the years that followed, a patchwork of local governments emerged to control what was left of the land and resources, particularly around the valuable ore deposits of the foothills and fertile fields of the coast. [[Santiago Alguacil]], Imperial bureaucrat and a native Matamorano, looked at the situation his home state found itself in and saw an opportunity that could (in theory) benefit himself, his country, and his masters.

On 9.II.1743, Alguacil met with a group of Ralgonese bureaucrats and Anahuacano leaders in the [[The Green|Green]] to quietly form a provisional government in the former territories of Matamoros and begin drafting a constitution for the new nation. By 18.III.1743 the Provisional Government of the Republic of Matamoros had been established. During the month of XI.1743, the Sierra Copper Ministry began a project to clear-cut portions of the North Sierra rainforest to make way for an expanded mining project. On 15.IV.1744, the Matamorano Monitor, a local human rights watch, reported on highly unethical labor practices in copper mines run by the state Ministry of Sierra Copper.<ref>https://matamoros-micras.proboards.com/thread/31/human-rights-violations-backed-copper</ref> Demonstrations began as soon as the next day, quickly engulfing Matamoros' major cities as protesters sought to end the abuse of miners in the Sierra del Norte region. Despite a PR campaign downplaying the conditions the miners were working in, the situation quickly developed beyond the Matamorano government's ability to independently contain the situation and, by 14.VI.1744, requested Imperial military assistance to stabilize the country.{{Citation needed|date=May 2025}} The following day, the 4th Brigade of the 35th Imperial Marines were deployed to occupy Hidalgo and Allende with the intent to end the riots in those cities.

==Geography==
The terrain of Matamoros is dominated by rainforests. These rainforests are some of the most biodiverse in [[Keltia]], with over a million species of fauna documented within the area. In order to protect this ecosystem, a committee is in the process of being established by the PGRM in order to protect the habitats of the animals living in the jungles of the country.

The coastal regions are mostly plains cleared out over decades of settlement for use as farmland. These plains feed the majority of the people who live in Matamoros. Following the East Keltian Collapse, however, some of these plains have been reclaimed by the rainforest.

The hills to the far north, aside from serving as a basic form of frontier defense, are also home to the copper mines that generate much of the region's wealth.

==Politics==
Politics in the PGRM largely revolve around its leader, Santiago Alguacil. While nominally checked by the other parts of the government, he has appointed their members and, as such, they are largely loyal to him. As of early 1743, the most significant organ of government in the Provisional Government is the Constitutional Committee, tasked with drafting the founding charter of the new nation.

The main priorities of the economists in the PGRM are to re-establish the extraction of the copper mines in the country, providing Matamoros with its intended primary export to the Imperial Federation; and to establish functioning trade ports in Hidalgo and Allende, enabling the transport of Imperial goods through the Strait of Haifa. Aside from this Matamoros currently has an agrarian subsistence economy owing to the current lack of modern infrastructure. However, plans are being drafted to restore a basic level of infrastructure to the country's major land routes as soon as possible, if only to facilitate trade with the Federation.

The Military Government of Northwest Corum (Martino: Gobierno Militar del Noroeste de Corum) is a governing entity set up by Colonel Salvador Cueva after the Matamorano landing during the Corum War with the nominal goal of establishing order and organizing civil law enforcement to free his own forces to continue fighting the Confederation of the Dispossessed.

==Constitution==
The population of the Military Government of Northwest Corum (Henceforth M.G.N-W.C.) is defined as all Corish people residing within its boundaries, and all Ralgonese and Matamorano soldiers assigned to duties within its borders. The borders of the M.G.N-W.C. are as follows: a line drawn directly east from the easternmost point of the northern bay of Corum to the Mina Forest; the western border of the Mina Forest itself; a line drawn directly west from the previously-mentioned border to the southernmost point of the northern bay; the natural boundary of the northern bay. The governor of the M.G.N-W.C. shall be Colonel Salvador Cueva of the Matamorano Northwest Corum Volunteers, and shall be its sole executive. The legislature shall be the said officer's command staff; all laws shall be passed by the legislature with a two-thirds majority and authorized by the executive to be considered valid and take effect.

==Peacekeeping Act==
There shall be an organization, henceforth entitled the "Northwest Corish Police Force", responsible for ensuring that any undue threats or acts of violence against persons, or vandalization of property, is properly prosecuted. Membership shall be open to any person deputized by the Governor. There shall be a Chief Magistrate, appointed by the Governor, whose role shall be to hear any such cases and determine the appropriate penalty, if any. The officers of the Northwest Corish Police Force shall be responsible for upholding any penalties assessed by the Chief Magistrate.

==White Lanes Act==
The Military Government of Northwest Corum shall recognize the humanitarian corridors in Corum established by the Straits Convention, and shall take no action against any vessels or vehicles carrying aid material or refugees along said corridors in the areas under its jurisdiction.

==Southern Frontier Act==
The Military Government of Northwest Corum shall recognize the Florian claims as of 11.X.1749, and shall adjust its southern border to exclude any claims which overlap with those of the Confederate States of Floria. In the territories claimed by Northwest Corum but administered by the Florian military, the Florian forces shall remain in the area until 1750 AN, after which control of the territory will be transferred to Northwest Corum.

==Geography==
The terrain of Matamoros is dominated by rainforests. These rainforests are some of the most biodiverse in [[Keltia]], with over a million species of fauna documented within the area. In order to protect this ecosystem, a committee is in the process of being established by the PGRM in order to protect the habitats of the animals living in the jungles of the country.

The coastal regions are mostly plains cleared out over decades of settlement for use as farmland. These plains feed the majority of the people who live in Matamoros. Following the East Keltian Collapse, however, some of these plains have been reclaimed by the rainforest.

The hills to the far north, aside from serving as a basic form of frontier defense, are also home to the copper mines that generate much of the region's wealth.

==Politics==
Politics in the PGRM largely revolve around its leader, Santiago Alguacil. While nominally checked by the other parts of the government, he has appointed their members and, as such, they are largely loyal to him. As of early 1743, the most significant organ of government in the Provisional Government is the Constitutional Committee, tasked with drafting the founding charter of the new nation.
