The wedding of the Titular Emperor of Alexandria Francis Joseph IV and Queen Elizabeth I of Caputia took place in a civil ceremony at Bellesea Palace in Zalae, Caputia, on 25 Geburtsber 1661 AN.

The ceremony, conducted in the presence of the couple's families and friends, was followed by a Service of Prayer and Dedication in the Most Holy Temple of the Faith, the center of the Church of Caputia.

After the conclusion of the ceremonies in Zalae, the couple flew to Dos Gardenias, New Alexandria in Natopia, for a Consecration and Dedication Service in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Storms, the center of the Autocephalous Church of Alexandria.

The marriage formalized the relationship between the Titular Alexandrian Emperor and the Queen of Caputia. The couple courted for three years prior to the wedding, much to the interest of Caputian and Natopian pop magazines. The couple struggled to maintain the privacy of their relationship under unprecedented media attention in Caputia and New Alexandria.

During the Service of Prayer and Dedication in Zalae, Francis Joseph IV was crowned and anointed as Prince Regent, Duke of Nouveau Geneve, Baron Carrillo, among other Caputian titles.

During the Consecration and Dedication Service in Dos Gardenias, Elizabeth I was crowned Titular Empress Consort, Baroness of Reistag, Countess of New Alexandria, and Princess of Neridia (the latter as a wedding gift from the Prince of Neridia).

Notable figures in attendance included international political, religious, and royal figures, and various international celebrities, such as Greta Orlando.

It was watched by an estimated global TV audience of 750 million people. Events were held around Caputia and the Most Serene Union of Demesnes in Natopia to mark the wedding. Many street parties were held throughout Caputia to celebrate the occasion.

Engagement and preparations

On 13.IX.1658, it was announced that Queen Elizabeth I and Emperor Francis Joseph, Count of New Alexandria, would marry sometime in the year 1660. It would consist of a civil service followed by religious prayer and consecreation in the two faiths held by the couple, the Melusinian Faith and the Alexandrian faith.

The Caputian Privy Council met on 13.IX.1659 and officially gave effect to the Queen's consent to her own marriage. The Landry Government indicated that the marriage was not morganatic.

The couple were congratulated by many heads of state and government around Micras. On 18.1.1659, the Archbishop of Zalae issued a declaration titled "Amor Et Pertinacia", which read: "These arrangements have my support and are consistent with the teachings and the faith of the Church of Caputia." The Patriarch-Archbishop of Dos Gardenias and Titular Archbishop of Geneva commented in reply to the Archibishop of Zalae, noting strong approval, stating remarkably the approval of the Church saying, "may love and forgiveness and happiness spring forth from the union and bless the peoples of Caputia and Natopia."

The Caputian general elections of 1660 complicated matters for the engaged couple. Many Members of Parliament believed that it would be best to leave the matter of formalizing the union and their approval until after the election. After the election, leaders and spokespersons of all major parties indicated their approval of the union as part of their party's legislative positions in the next Parliament.

The Queen's engagement ring is a Carrillo family heirloom that belonged to the Dowager Empress of Alexandria, Vanessa. With an art deco platinum setting, it is composed of a square-cut central diamond from Cibola flanked by six rubies from Haifa.

A civil ceremony

A civil ceremony was chosen due to both monarchs being integral members and leaders of their own Churches. To avoid potential controversy caused by the future supreme governor of the Church of Caputia marrying someone of another faith in a religious ceremony, a civil ceremony was determined as a neutral ground where customs from both faiths were integrated. The leadership of the Church of Caputia and the Autocephalous Church of Alexandria have both granted their respective blessings to the marriage, but the Landry Government and many groups in Parliament preferred to hold a civil marriage ceremony with separate faith consecrations and dedications.

Civil Wedding and Consecration Services

The wedding took place at Bellesea Palace at 12.30 pm (Caputian local time) on 25.XV.1661. Crowds had gathered on the streets since dawn ahead of the service. The ceremony was attended by all blood members of the House of Carrillo and all members of the House of Rothborne.

After the wedding, the couple's witnesses were the Lord High Steward of the Most Serene Union, Benjamin Meir, and the Prime Minister of Caputia, Rt. Hon. Royson Merrick. The couple's wedding rings are crafted from 22 carat Cibolan gold from the Carrillo Mint in Dos Gardenias, Natopia. The design of the wedding rings is by a jeweller in the city of Abeis favored by the Queen.

The civil wedding was followed by a televised blessing, officially termed a Service of Prayer and Dedication, held in the afternoon at the Most Holy Temple of the Faith in the city of Zalae. This was attended by 500 guests and all the senior members of the Carrillo and Rothborne royal families. The arrangements for the wedding and service were strongly supported by the Archibishop of Zalae and the General Synod as "consistent with the Church of Caputia guidelines concerning marriage."

The Melusinian service was then followed by a wedding dinner reception at the Ambassador Hotel, one of Caputia's finest hotels. Making use of its renowned Hall of Mirrors, which resembles the Hall of Mirrors in the late Palace of Wesloderia, the dinner reception celebrated the union of the two crowns and made ample use of music, customs, and cusine from both Caputian and Alexandrian cultures.

Following the end of the wedding dinner reception, the couple rested together in the Ambassador Hotel and next morning flew together to Dos Gardenias, Alexandria for the consecration service at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Storms on 29.XV.1661.

Following the consecration service in Dos Gardenias, the couple greeted the people who had lined outside the Cathedral in Dos Gardenias. The party then moved to the Imperial Residence where the Titular Emperor hosted a reception for a number of guests.

All services and celebrations were also attended by selected members of the household members and staff of both Houses.

Honeymoon

A "just married" sign was attached to the landau by Princess Alexandra of Alexandria and Prince George of Caputia, the Queen's cousin. The couple was driven from the Imperial Residence to catch a private train from Dos Gardenias Central Station to the city of Klaasisitya, Natopia.

After spending a day in the city of Klaasisitya, they flew to Lindstrom, where they met with the Natopian Emperor Nathan II. They stayed in Lindstrom for two days. Then the couple travelled to the Isles of Caputia, where they spent a week enjoying beaches near Port Karsten. Then they boarded a cruise to Zalae that stopped in several parts of the Isles of Caputia and in Macsen. By the time the couple returned from their honeymoon, their wedding gifts were displayed at Bellesea Palace.

Public and commercial interest

Queen Elizabeth I and Emperor Francis Joseph IV personally approved an official range of china (including handmade plates, cups, and pill boxes) to be made for the Royal Caputian Collection and sold as souvenirs. The items are decorated with the intertwined initials of the couple and include the wording "To celebrate the marriage of Elizabeth and Francis Joseph 25.XV.1661."

The Office of the Queen's Private Secretary has approved a longer list of memorabilia, including official mugs, plates, biscuit tins, and porcelain pill pots. The document also clarified the use of coats of arms and pictures of the couple on such items. Initially, Bellesea Palace refused to sanction official tea towels, which, along with aprons, T-shirts and cushions, were deemed, "in poor taste". However, the restriction on tea towels, though not the other items, was later reversed. Sales of merchandising reached ₺68 million.

To mark the engagement of Queen Elizabeth I and Emperor Francis Joseph IV, the Caputian Royal Mint produced an official gold engagement coin, showing the couple in profile, as well as an official ₺5 coin for the wedding. The Neridian Mail and Post issued a stamp, approved by the Prince of the Most Serene Union, in commemoration of the wedding.

Foreign broadcast rights

The proceedings were covered by the Caputian Broadcasting Corporation. Licenses for foreign broadcasts were sold to several broadcasters. The sales of broadcasting licenses reached ₺108 million.

Terran broadcast rights

Negotiations for broadcasting rights in Terra through Hoso Hoenn were conducted by the Caputian Broadcasting Corporation, which acted as the agent for the Caputian Government for the sale of international broadcasting rights to the wedding. Determining that the sale could enable a Hoennese monopoly on the broadcast for a whole different planet, senior sources at the CBC have shared with journalists that executives decided to price the rights "as high as it is imaginable." Hoso Hoenn refused to pay the requested price. CBC executives determined it was time to shop the interplanetary broadcast around but found no further buyers.
