Place de la Liberté
The Place de la Liberté is the main square in the heart of Vanie, the capital city of Oportia. Located at the intersection of Avenue de l'Indépendance d'Oportie and Rue du Progrès, the square has been the site of numerous significant events in Oportian history since its construction in 1709 AN. The central feature of the Place de la Liberté is the towering Statue de la Liberté, a 30-meter-tall bronze sculpture depicting the allegorical figure of Liberty holding a torch and a tablet inscribed with the date of Oportia's independence. The statue, designed by renowned Oportian sculptor Jean-Luc Moreau, was erected in 1723 AN to commemorate the 1721 Oportian protests.
The Place de la Liberté is surrounded by several important government buildings, including the Palais Fédéral (the seat of the Oportian federal government), the Haute Cour Fédérale (Federal High Court of Oportia), and the Hôtel de Ville (Vanie City Hall). The square is also home to the Musée National d'Oportie, which houses an extensive collection of Oportian art and historical artifacts. Throughout the year, the Place de la Liberté serves as a gathering place for festivals, concerts, and political demonstrations, making it a vibrant hub of activity in the capital city.
