Sponsorship

Post by King of Gotzborg »

Just thinking (badly most likely), but with all the *ahem* substandard claims which have been occurring over the last few years, has the MCS ever thought about implementing a sponsorship facet to making a claim?

This would for example, entail any nation who has been actively present upon the map for a period of no less than a year to act as a sponsor to a new nation seeking to join the map? All other rules would continue to apply, however it would become incumbent upon the new nation to contact and interact with one of those sponsors (or more preferably). This would serve to ensure that the sponsor is somewhat backing up the new nation, creating some interaction and possibly eliminating the 'fly-by-night' mns and bug nations.

I was just thinking about it and thought I would post it as food for thought.
before i became accepted i was looking for some sort of support- however sometimes sponsoring someone may mean you may have to do all the work

I'm with the August Charles II on this one. It seems sensible. Maybe even two sponsor nations if we really wanna get away from all these silly here one day gone the next nations!
Indeed. I can understand your point about doing all the work a little but the fact is you don't have to sponsor anyone so, if you think they aren't doing enough, you don't do it!

Indeed - although this sponsorship wouldn't need you to push people or to support people. It would only help to prove to the MCS that, if you had a couple of established nations on your side, you must be worthy of addition.

I like this idea. Especially if we'd go with a year-long membership requisite for sponsorship. I'll see if I can't write up some kind of draft policy to show off by the end of the week.

Hurrah for a good policy!

Perhaps they should have two nations support... ie otherwise one nation noone likes could go around approving all the claims.

I kinda like this idea.. but also see flaws...

Just cause a nation isn't liked doesn't mean they don't deserve to be on the map.. this is kinda like elitism. Or is is cronyism? doesn't matter. I could see this not working on occasion.

I dont think it would lead to elietism, nations should be able to find someone they will interact with. If they arent going to interact with anyone, and noones going to interact with them, whats the point of them even being on the map?

I do not agree that this would be elitist...not at all. And I am fairly certain that just about every nation in existence has at least ONE friend. And, in the end, if they cannot even get one nation to Sponsor them, what's the use of having them on the map? Sounds harsh perhaps, but still.

But, we also have to ensure against respected (or already on map for 1 year) nations sponsoring a bug nations... what is to stop a respected nation from starting/sponsoring a bug nation, and then in the end, just bringing in those citizens into their own nation, making the new nation a duchy, or province, or protectorate, or member of alliance or whatever???

Perhaps, when a nation sponsors, they should give away a part of their own land ! Let the new nation develop and all etc, within its allocated three months (which should now be increased to four or five). After that time, if the nation still has sufficient activity in it to be called active or non-bug nation, then that nation can be given a new land of their choice, while the sponsoring nation can get back its land.
The sponsoring nation gets its land back no matter what the end result of the new-nation is.

Excellent! Let's all adopt secret handshakes and wear our trousers above our knee on one leg! That'll get rid of the accusations of élitism and being part of an Old Boys' Club!

As you may have guessed I don't like the idea. I think sponsorship should be allowed, but not demanded. Make the selection criteria tougher by all means, but don't use this pseudo-masonic idea.

Re: Sponsorship

I agree with possibly two nations to sponsor instead of one, however maybe to make that dependent upon something or whatever.

I appreciate the comments against this, it was only a thought on my part. Decision to utilize or implement remains as always with the MCS folk. I think the MCS at the end of the day will (and with the HUGE amount of comments and opinions of everyone else here) ensure that the potential for cronyism is avoided.

Speaking personally as a representative of Gotzborg, I would not support or sponsor any nation that has not interacted or make the effort to interact with our nation and I trust that we have enough trust in the micronational sector that everyone knows we wouldn't sponsor anyone who we didn't feel was appropriate for the map. I wouldn't want to lose that trust and so in turn wouldn't abuse that priviledge.

At the end of the day however, the MCS would I expect retain the right to still possibly refuse admission based on the regular criteria, ensuring that it is maintained.

And speaking of the potential for nations for create their own bug nations, get them on the map and annex them or what-not.....I know there are people here who would be all over that so quick, like flies on #$%^. As it stands right now, there is nothing preventing that from occurring currently.
In the end, the MCS still has the right and the ability to make decisions about new nations. The sponsorship would (in my mind) just be an introduction. The MCS would then continue to work it's magic.
