It's an umlaut, and in german it can be replaced by simply putting an 'e' after the formally umlauted letter, so käse goes to kaese and Flugzeugträge (aircraft carrier) to Flugzeugtraege.

i know, but when i type that in on my browser it opens up an "open file" thing so i put in the code. in everything else i use Alt Gr+o...
