Administration Council

Post by Babs »

Myself and Craitman believe that the Admin Council should represent the members of the MCS and thus should be elected by the members of the MCS.

Two members out of a total of 34/36 Active Nations.

This is of course, up for debate.

The matter of representation has always been the problem with the Admin Council system. I still think our council is more efficient than the GSO board, which is directly elected by the membership. The best times of the MCS were when Ryan ran it by himself as a private enterprise. Now that management has been diversified it is now oligarchical instead of monarchical. I think the Council as it exists now does fine.

One compromise I've always suggested is the addition of 2 or 3 elected "watch dog" admins that serve terms of 4 months or so. They should not be from a nation already "represented" on the Council. With two or three voices, the disenfranchised members can have a credible voice on the Council, but they will not hold a majority to stifle actions of the Council. This would be somewhat similar in principal to the rotating seats on the UN Security Council.

I naturally support this move (Babs and Craitman's). Any democracy is good.

Does any one have an up to date list of who is on the council now and what duties they perform on the council?

Those declaring that I do nothing should note that I do help out with the movement of threads and voting in the Council.

I'm for the elections myself, and I agree 110% with Nathan's post. This is exactly what I have devised, along with a few small alterations (clarifications so it actually works).

Thank you... all of you, lol.

With all due respect to Max, the special cartographer position has not produced any maps. A secretary may not be necessary as Pete performs many administrative duties. And indeed the Apollo Foundation for some reason has a voice on the Council.

If those three positions are turned into electable positions while Pete and spangle remain permanent members, then I really do think the efficiency of the council will remain while satisfying democracy.

Edit: I'm meaning *not* to say that you're not doing anything Benkern, I'm just curious as to why the AF was put on the council in the first place. Might as well put the FMF and MI on the council too is all I'm saying.

I wouldn't say there's a need for democracy, but I think it would work. It's true that the 'Golden Days' were of Ryan's "dictatorship" as some less tastefully like to put it, and given the choice I would choose a sole leader like Ryan over a democratic system, but for a start there are not currently any proper satisfactory applicants for that position and second no one would allow it. The idea that the MCS is a business is the best one, because it is, and as for democracy in a business - an Office would not have elected regional managers, to put it simply.

Max not being on Leave and doing nothing is a fair point. I'm just saying that right now you could give him a little wiggle room. He doesn't have a whole lotta free time - boarding school'll do that to you, I guess.
