England, Scotland, Wales, and N. Ireland (although, obviously, this has histroically been the focus of some debate) are nations, not countries. To be a country or a state requires sovereignty. England et al are not sovereign.

To be a nation, however, does not require sovereignty, rather it is more of a mindset - a group of people who share a common identity. England, Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland are nations because their inhabitants generally share that common identity (which is suitably different from the others)

Oho! Indeed?
*republican Max starts rage*
I don't care what noble descent she has or how, in a democracy, as we claim to be, she is of better blood than all other Brits, but I don't see why she should have the right to tamper around with those places where people actually live and work.

I dont know any other 81 year old women who still travel all over the world meeting foreign diplomats, attending constant ceremonies and enduring Blair's company on a weekly based without murdering him.

Not Christians specifically, but practically anyone before at least the Renaissance. Tyrants in the ancient world had a big problem in that they obviously were new guys and not in with the gods ...

That's a bit of a generalisation. Hard-line, extremely conservative Anglicans would believe that. Since Unitarians are essentially Deist, not Theist, we don't really believe that God could actually choose anyone.
This will be my twelfth monarchist versus republican argument micronationally, and I can't be bothered to have yet another one.
If anyone can refute the excellent logic of the good people at www.republic.org.uk, you have my respect.
