Member Guidelines

Post by Bill3000 »

These are some general guidelines people posting to these forums should follow. Due to the wide variety of people and material presented to the MCS, it has become necessary to institue a few forum etiquette rules and posting guidelines. Not all of these are necessary to follow to-the-word, but be warned, obvious abuses to this forum and against the goodwill of the MCS will be punished. Needless to say, these guidelines are being placed here to help you help the MCS so we can do our job better.

Do NOT Spam the MCS

Asking stupid questions about things which common sense should give you the answer to, or making remarks, holding discussions, or other such unrelated topics which do not belong in the MCS, will be considered as spam. Spammers will be banned from the MCS and, if they represent a nation, their membership in this organisation will possibly be revoked. Revocation of membership being dependant on the severity of the spam.

Posting Images

When making claims or posting images to the MCS, such as updates, map changes, etc. Post your images in the format of PNG or GIF only (if possible). Bitmaps, jpegs and other file types are not supported by the MCS and it adds extra work to our already full plate. If you want the map updated more quickly, post your images in the proper format so we can attend to your needs without having to waste time redrawing blurry images.

Ask the MCS BEFORE you assuming something

Do not assume you can go out and claim to rule another planet. Do not assume anything. If it's not written down as being official somewhere, then it's probably not official. If you have a question about something, ask it, either in public or private. AIM'ing me with a question is more preferable than spamming the forum with questions which have, more than likely, already been answered in the past.

Map Editing and Drawing Your Own Maps

When editing an image to make a new claim, change or what-not for us to use, it is important that your follow proper format so that we can keep the map the same across the board and maintain a professional atmosphere. The map looks terrible when people use several different font sizes or colors for cities. Here are some format rules:
  • City Font: Times New Roman, Size 8
  • City Font Color: Red or #FF0000
  • Legend Font: Times New Roman, Size 10
  • Provincial/Subdivision Font: Times New Roman, Size 8
  • Provincial/Subdivision Font Color: Black or #000000
Also note that the map provides a legend with various icons to denote particular locations on the map. Use it.

Geographical Notes

The MCS map - Micras - is intended to mirror the Earth in almost all respects. Not exactly, but close enough to provide a realistic emulation for our members. The climate, flora, fauna and other features are identical to that of the Earth as a base standard. This meaning that there are exceptions to this rule which are dictated on a case-by-case basis by our members. For example, Shireroth has elves, dragons and other fantasy creatures because that fits into the elements of their culture. But that doesn't mean everybody has these things. You can choose to have additional things - within reasonable limits - if you want to or not. As a base standard however, Micras is the equivalent of Earth in all aesthetic respects. So new members can expect to start with this and, as per the needs of their particular nation and its culture, expand upon that base as need be.

The Prime Meridian of Micras is located at the exact centre of the map based upon the pixel width, roughly at pixel 1800 (3600/2=1800). Rotation around the sun, day length, year length, and so forth, also all mirror that of Earth. Just as Micras is not an enforced name, such as one member may choose to call it Midgard or something, so it is the same with the calendar and other aesthetics.

This guideline will most likely be expanded in the near future.
