i was confused about the ending... he was reminising about being shot so was he dead?

Yeah Winston was killed at the end, his last few moments were described as the bullet pierced through his skull. The ending was basically saying that no matter how hard anyone tries to defeat Big Brother, the machine will always win.

Animal Farm is cool too, dark but brilliant. And it sounds like a child's book or some dodgy porno.

did anyone here ever read anything by an irish author called Flann O'Brien. He's written At Swim-Two-Birds, The Third Policeman and The Dalkey Archive. I don't know many other people who've read him even though he's hilarious and sinister at the same time. Apparently sales for The Third Policeman have recently shot in the USA cause producers of Lost have hinted
that it may be the premise to the show.
