(A Whitesnake Award to the first person to guess what Joris means in modern day english Wink )
All I know is that it's the Dutch name for George - pronounced with the 'J' sounding like a 'y'. I didn't know it held a modern English meaning.

not many people relise you actually pronounce it how it's spelt with 'J' sound instead of a 'Y' but then again it's also amazing how many people get it right first go......

but there's a minority of Dutch words where J is said J, most of them (including Joris) are said Y...
