2010 FMF World Cup Official Thread
Well, here we have it, we're a few days ahead of schedule but arriving in Hamland it looks like the World Cup Fever has already started. Fans are flocking and the players are raring to go. The excitement all around Hamland is buzzing and with their team kicking off on Sunday in the opening match it should be another incredible event.
So with Taesong in 2006, Novatainia-Tokidoki 2007, Amokolia 2008, Alexandria 2009 and now Hamland 2010, we have now returned to Keltia and EMUFA are now hosting their 2nd world cup, the first of the four FMF regions to do so. After last year's success for Alexandria on home soil, the question remains: Can Hamland follow suit? Can they go all the way? Speaking to fans all around the nation, they expect so. But we shall see how this month unfolds....

Hamland v Tellia
With the stadiums set up and the fans and players ready to go, I think it's time for the world cup. And tomorrow, we shall see some spectacular scenes in the opener as hosts Hamland take on Tellia.
Dubbed as the "group of death" alongside Toketi and Passas, the Hammish and the Tellians go into the world cup as the two most prepared teams for the tournament.
After a loss to Craitland early on, Hamland managed to come back with 2 successful wins including an 8-0 demolition of Incontinentia. The team look to side the 3-5-2 formation for only their third time after a successful outcome in Incontinentia at the Peninsula Stadium. Meanwhile Tellia will stick to their 4-2-3-1 formation brought into the preparations as manager Roberto Vincenzo looks to bring a young squad with several changes.
Frederico Diamo will lead the side for the Tellians as a stand in for the injured Giorgio Rosso, with the same formation starting against Shireroth in their 4-0 victory going into the World Cup. There will only be one expected change to the line up, with Leonzio Pandolfi being dropped for the late call up of youngster Martin Große. This means that Valérien Hertz will move to the left side of defence as a result of this change.
With both teams going in with successful preparations, this game could go either way. Hamland have the home advantage; however on the other hand Tellia have the statistical advantage going into the match. Whatever the case, we should be in for an exciting opener.
Predicted Line-ups:
Hamland (3-5-2): 1 R MacLeod (capt), 2 R Kartiksti, 15 E Winters, 6 P MacKenzie, 23 B McVeigh, 16 H Antar, 10 J Scott, 5 E Martin, 7 R Brown, 11 B Craig, 21 A Miller.
Tellia (4-2-3-1): 16 R Flavienchini, 2 M Große, 4 P di Montezemolo, 5 M Schiavvi, 12 V Hertz, 10 F Diamo (capt), 6 K Jóhannsson, 13 S Özker, 8 F Menzola, 11 V Motta, 9 A L Peruzzi.

Passas v Toketi
The second game of the Group A matches will be played in the same evening as the opener. With the advantage of knowing the earlier score, either of these two teams could use it by attempting to claim top spot of the group.
Unlike the opening clash, Passas and Toketi haven't had any real preparation match, although training camps may work into their favour despite the lack of match fitness. Both teams have reached the final before, with Passas reaching the final in 2008 and Toketi reaching the final on home soil the year before that. These two teams will be a force to be reckoned with, and the winner of this match should firmly send a message to the rest of their group.
In team news, Passas make two very unusual changes, as well as an expected change on the right wing. With James Custis excluded from the squad, Sa Pazi steps up to take the right wing, while the two surprises include Danijel Đorđević on the left wing as well as Gregorios Sinyakos at right back with the absence of Henry Racckam from the squad.
Meanwhile Toketi will field their usual 4-4-2 that has been a success over the last few years, but a surprise move from the manager looks to be happening with Tom Kenstein taking the captaincy on a trial match. Whatever the case it should be very interesting on how this should unfold as Turk ronAjain's place in the Toketi 11 is at jeopardy with two younger faces looking to contest his position.
This one will look to be close, if not closer than the first game. Both have a pedigree of talent, so who knows what will unfold. The key thing we know is: both sides have a good striker pairing and will not be afraid to unleash either of them.
Predicted Starting Line-ups:
Passas (4-1-2-1-2): 1 M East, 18 G Sinyakos, 2 O Hurtado, 5 N Davis, 3 S Bonny, 6 E van Heart, 13 S Pazi, 11 D Đorđević, 8 N Verkslamp (capt), 9 L Dabrowski, 10 P Sherman.
Toketi (4-4-2): 1 T ronAjain, 2 P Neusin, 5 N Jufirya, 6 R Miesin, 3 T Ranjana, 17 J Zyxveldtsen, 8 N Furben, 4 Y Firanjan, 7 I Trask, 10 T Kenstein (capt), 12 E Jowasaki.

Interland v Stormark Preview
With Group A already playing the opening matches, the attention now turns to the start of Group B, and the two teams which will have this luxury will be the match between Interland and Stormark.
Both teams will be looking to kick start with a win, and to progress to the knockouts to the first time in their micronational history. It should also be mentioned that both of these teams automatically qualified, so their previous record is far from being called shabby.
Interland will look to play a 4-4-2 formation with captain Jan Kepp leading the way for the third time in Interland's third ever world cup. The experience looks set to be all homegrown with the exception of Xäiville's Krzysztof Lukasz in defence, who has been rumoured to join Cherry Trees after the tournament. However it isn't the time for rumours, but it is time to play in the world cup for sure and hope to progress. The team will also depend on Jerzy Golanski of FC Abramowice up front.
Meanwhile, Stormark will play a slightly different team compared to the previous world cup appearances with several changes. With the dissolving of Hurmu, there has been a mass exodus of the former Hurmu players to Stormark to obtain eligibility to play for the team, with the Stormark team most likely to capitalise due to this. Like their opponents, Stormark look set to play a 4-4-2 formation and will look to Tim Rainer to lead the team from the centre of the pack.
In contrast to Interland, the Stomarkian team also consists mostly of foreign based players with many of them playing in Craitland, Alexandria, Zandarijn, Passas and Tellia. Among the 23 there are also 4 unattached free agents, who will all be looking for new clubs. It is expected for Stomark to try and play their strongest team possible, so we should expect them to raise their game against Interland.
Interland should be wary of Fjalar Heidarsson and Aki Maenpaa, a strike force which has been well dreamt of in the AEFA region, and looks set to be Stormark's main weapon for the games.
Interland look set to be favourites however we shouldn't write Stormark off just yet.
Predicted Lineups:
Interland (4-4-2): 1 J Kepp (gk) (capt), 2 L Ziebro, 4 H Diabel, 17 K Lukasz, 3 A Anders, 8 D Drzewny, 6 F Maskat, 5 O Lapacz, 12 T Mostowny, 9 J Golanski, 18 M Orwolski.
Stormark (4-4-2): 13 R Mulkensson (gk), 22 A Illola, 23 R Himanen, 6 M Joer, 3 M Kinnunen, 7 S Luudge, 4 T Rainer (capt), 15 T Hjular, 20 T Gamst-Pedersen, 9 F Heidarsson, 18 A Maenpaa.

Alexandria v Batavia
So far, Batavia have qualified three times for the world cup. So far, Batavia have been drawn with Alexandria in every group of their world cup and so far, Batavia have failed to beat Alexandria and subsequently fail to proceed to the knockout stages. The question that ponders most on Batavian minds is whether they can be third time lucky.
With the stature of Batavia, they are long due to proceed past the groups. But Alexandria have been a powerhouse for so long and until last year they never won a world cup; that was until 2009 where they hosted and won it on home soil. The Batavians have also been powerless to defeat, following a 2008 5-1 loss against Alexandria before a Sébastien Focán penalty destroyed Batavian hearts in 2009 as Alexandria went on the lift the trophy.
This time, Alexandria will have to do it, and this time, it won't be with Sébastien Focán. This leads to a new era for Alexandrian football, with Cesc Xavi leaving. Les Bleus have been dealt with a more serious blow, with influential goalscoring front man Florent Lassana-Traoré also out of the world cup due to injury. Manager Paolo Ste-Laurent has called up a similar squad, however replaced the experienced man with a less experienced Alexis Carrasco, which has proven to be a negative move according to many fans.
Alexandria also move to a 4-4-2 formation, shifting Tamer Modrem to left wing with the likes of Samuel Jean and Fabio Gonzalez to miss out on a starting spot. The opportunity for 2 strikers will allow a pairing of Khalid Mohamed and Daniel Taleva - the duo netted 4 past Nova English Korea although with one match experience, it could prove to be a hindrance to the team. The team also look set to opt for Remi Marin despite his recent return from injury, with a lack of fitness and lack of match practice this could prove to be a huge mistake with a team built entirely on player reputation instead of form or talent.
Batavia will go all out with a 4-3-3 with no real changes to previous play. The consistency of the formation and tactical plan could work to the Batavian favours. It looks set to be a good game, with Jowi Bach looking to put in a few big goals in big moments. Batavia narrowly missed out on the knockout stages last year, but improving year on and year on, this could yet prove to be their year. However a tricky task against Alexandria and the current world champions, this means that the side are down as underdogs on the paper.
Predicted Lineups:
Alexandria (4-4-2): 1 R Marin (gk), 2 D Belle, 5 C Kopaczewski, 18 M Esmé, 3 M Pegazo, 7 D Sála, 6 A Cesc Xavi (capt), 4 J P D'Oliviera, 8 T Modrem, 9 K Mohamed, 10 D Taleva.
Batavia (4-3-3): 1 T Meesen (gk) (capt), 10 R van Rethel, 11 N van Enen, 4 J Meesters, 3 A Hodzelmans, 7 H De Boer, 8 P Leefma, 9 G Reve, 2 J van Veen, 5 J Bach, 6 J Mioch.

Interland 2-0 Stormark
Interland take immediate control of Group B after a routine win over Stormark.
The AEFA team, making their first appearance since 2008, where they crashed-out at the group stage with Interland, look a stronger team after recruiting a number of ex-Hurmu players after their close neighbours' death. Although Interland are looking well and truly pumped-up for this year's World Cup as they hope to make it to the quarter-finals for the first time ever.
Interland could have honestly won this game by three or four, but the first of their two goal came after a drab first half. Jerzy Golański added another to his World Cup goals tally be slotting in the penalty he won after being brought-down inside the area after collecting Marian Wyzywan's ball through. The FC Abramowice forward coolly drilled the ball into Mulkensson's bottom-left corner as the 'keeper went the opposite direction.
It wasn't long before the score was doubled. Golański returning the favour to Wyzywan, who replaced Marcin Orwolski at the break, by laying the ball to the FC Nowograd man to curl a shot around Mulkensson's acrobatic dive from the edge of the box with his left foot first time. With over half an hour left, Interland began to dominate and Stormark were pushed further and further back into defence. If it weren't for a solid Mulkensson save from Wyzywan's near-post header at a corner, Stormark could have had a whitewash on their hands. But after keeping the Interlandians at bay for the remainder of the game, some credit has to go to the Stormarkian defence for a hearty performance against two strikers who look like they may cause a lot of trouble to other teams this year.

Craitland v Natopia Preview
Favourites Craitland are looking to head off with a winning start with a match at Fisherman Road against Natopia. With a fairly experienced and local lineup full of players playing within their home nation domestically, the team look set to be strong. Meanwhile, Natopia have a huge mountain to climb in the first task after a return to the world cup since 2006.
Franciscania's Raymond Luxury-Yacht will look to set to lead out his men with a fairly familiar Natopian team to the ones seen in previous tournaments. However, Natopia will see a few changes to the squad, with Gaillard Concorde looking to oust Alan Des Saint-Louis from goal and the likes of Giacomo Tedeschi and Michael Stanescu also pushing for starting places.
Craitland will see their familiar 3-5-2 formation that has been used effectively in their previous world cup campaigns. As believed so, Freddie Gaärsen will start up front and will be joined by Hanast Pellegrino, who beats the likes of Zen Davvidlaw and Tommy Hjansen to the second forward spot due to his emphatic goalscoring display in Craitland's record highscoring 11-0 victory against minnows Incontinentia. As expected, Manta Pellegrino is looking to lead the team out and as the most successful team in the world cup's history, we can expect more or less a challenge at the very least to make it 3 world cup titles won by the Craitish sides.
Comparing the two squads, it should be a good game and Craitland should be able to edge Natopia if they play to their potential.
Predicted Line-ups:
Craitland (3-5-2): 1 J Vorgensen (GK), 2 J A Larsen, P Demhivo, 3 J Hjansen, 7 P Manta (capt), 13 Y Senovichi, 8 T Vorgensen, 5 H Herä, 11 M Edmildón, 10 F Gaärsen, 16 P Hanast.
Natopia (4-4-2): 23 G Concorde (GK), 17 G Tedeschi, 19 D S Leonardo, 5 R Azin, 2 J Benden, 8 I Cunmulaj, 14 J Shin, 12 R Luxury-Yacht (capt), 9 J Murphy-Lee, 18 I Chowdhury, 21 M Stanescu.

Nova England v Novatainia Preview
Dubbed at the battle of the Nova's, last year's finalists Nova England will hope to be going one better from last year and take the cup back to their homeland as they face Novatainia.
The 2009 finalists look set to play a 4-3-3 formation with a high chance of the team packing the midfield with the left and right forwards dropping back to form a 4-5-1 when needed as the team look to work and battle their way through the campaign again. Paul Larkin as always will be depended on for his goalkeeping duties as well the usual defensive line of Austonov, Slatter, Herbert and Cesear.
However reports from the Nova England camp suggest that captain Marcus Downs will miss out on a starting 11 spot, with the armband going to be deputised by striker Ka'an Peterson, a player which Nova England hugely depend on in every world cup for success.
Novatainia will play a slightly different team following their former dismal displays in previous seasons. Damien Bozanic will surprisingly replace Marcel Yola in goal as they both look to fight out the number 1 spot for both their club and country. The team to play in their usual Black strip will also switch to a 4-5-1 formation with captain Iago Othello leading the team from the front whilst packing the midfield with two holding midfielders to support the back four.
The Novatainians believe that with this team, they should be stronger defensively and will look to counter at any given opportunity. Should this be the case then the game will entirely be up to Nova England to break down their opposition. Although statistically favourites, Nova England do not know what they can expect with the Novatainians deploying a different tactic to previous seasons. If I had to call this game, I'd still put my money on the Nova English to win.
Predicted Line-ups
Nova England (4-3-3): 1 P Larkin (GK), 2 C Austonov, 4 J Slatter, 5 M Herbert, 3 J Cesear, 6 J Johnson, 9 P Nelson, 16 N Bradford, 10 K Peterson (capt), 20 A Kiker, 8 C Sorrel.
Novatainia (4-5-1): 13 D Bozanic (GK), 2 J Birdseye, 21 M Hil'jandé, 18 P Morrowind, 3 T Nova, 7 L Mkvenner, 8 D Cee, 6 C Alberto, 17 Z Cee, 22 J Ajax, 12 I Othello (capt).

Re: 2010 FMF World Cup Official Thread
Nova England 1-0 Novatainia
Nova England eventually take the spoils, but Novatainia almost spring a shock with a very strong performance.
The 2007 joint-hosts, appearing in their second consecutive World Cup for the first time, brought a hugely changed squad into this tournament - and the influx of youth and foreign-based players seems to have done the trick. It was the Apollonians who started the better too, keeping the Nova English quiet as well as forming a number of attacks. The closest of which fell to captain Iago Othello, but the Novatica United forward headed Lars Mkvenner's cross into the hands of Paul Larkin in goal. Novatainia's other best chance was a rocketed shot by St Nova Strikers' promising midfielder Chris Alberto. The youngster, who can play anywhere across the middle, hit a pass inside first time but the powerful strike could only swerve a couple of feet wide of Larkin's left-hand post.
Novatainia didn't hold-back after the break and their best chance of the game almost went spectacularly in with just over 25 minutes remaining. Lars Mkvenner beat Richard Jones again down the wing before laying the ball back to David Cee. Cee was swiftly closed and fouled by Nigel Bradford, bringing about a Novatainian freekick and a yellow for Bradford. Alberto, confident from his close shave in the first half, stepped-up for the kick on the left side of the area, ten yards outside the box. This time, he decided to curl the shot with his right foot, up over the wall, beating Larkin's dive, but could only find the base of the 'keeper's right-hand post. The ball rebounded off the woodwork and was cleared by Joseph Slatter.
Nova England broke away after this and managed to take the lead against the run of play on the counter-attack. Slatter's clearance was chased-down by Peter Nelson, who was furthest upfield. Nelson ran the ball inside as Ka'an Peterson raced to join the attack. Mart Hil'jandé, playing slightly out-of-position at centre-back, closed Nelson, but the West Grinstead man played a good ball through to Peterson, who took a touch to stabilise himself before prodding the ball into the inside of Damian Bozanić's net, past the Syrelwynn Swifts 'keeper's left arm.
Novatainia were astonished, but should learn from this that underestimating a team's attacking power isn't the best idea - especially if the team in question were last year's beaten finalists! Although on a more positive note, the AEFA qualifiers kept together and formed two solid attacks before the end of the game - quite a difference from last year's 5-0 loss to eventual winners Alexandria in the opening game. In the last five minutes, Lars Mkvenner unleashed an audacious shot from a very tight angle on his right wing, after beating John Cesear, which had to be tipped behind by Larkin, who had his front post well covered. Unfortunately, the Novatainians couldn't make anything of the corner and ended the game losing 1-0, perhaps unjustly. Novatainia should definitely go into the game against long-term allies Craitland with some confidence, while Nova England could find themselves struggling against a Natopian side looking to make amends for no World Cup appearances since the inaugural tournament in 2006.

Craitland 3-1 Natopia
The Fisherman Stadium could have proved to have been a surprising event as Natopia almost sprung off a historic victory in their world cup return only to be defeated in a triple quickfire in the closing 15 minutes to break Natopian hearts.
The Craitish started off with a good spell with Markko Edmildón smashing the ball against the woodwork from 35 yards out only for captain Manta Pellegrino to let a wayward cross drift out for a goal kick. The dominations by the whites went on for 20 minutes into the game until Hanast tried his luck from 20 yard out, only to be parried away by Gaillard Concorde before being cleared by Joshua Murphy-Lee who drifted back from the left wing to help with defensive duties.
Natopia then had a successful passing period and although not going forward, the Natopians were passing the ball around in similar manner to how the Alexandrians would usually play. But the shock came at the 35th minute when James Shin decided to drift forward from his position before passing left to Ismail Cunmulaj. The Romero winger continued the forward movement by stepping inside on Jon Anders Larsen before squaring the ball to Raymond Luxury-Yacht.
Luxury-Yacht unleashed a squad just outside the 18 yard box however goalkeeper Jack Vorgensen didn't manage to save the shot, leaving the ball to bounce away towards Michael Stanescu, who put the ball into the an open goal.
With Natopia leading at 1-0 into the break, the Craitish team went in wondering how they were down by a goal to a team they really should be winning against. Coming out revitalised after what seemed to be a motivating team talk, the Craitish looked to build attacks and get back in the game. But every move was being read by the Natopians, who pulled all the men back behind the ball. This left Craitland only being able to shoot from distance, and as many people would believe, chances were almost close to none.
However at the 75th minute, Edmildón managed to break past the midfield and continued to drive into the Natopian half reaching the left hand side of the penalty box before crossing it in only for Leonardo to clear the ball behind for a corner. Manta came over to take the corner which met the head of Freddie Gaärsen whose chance was handled away by Giacomo Tedeschi off the line. A real goalscoring opportunity, the referee undoubtedly blew his whistle and sent the Natopian right back to his marching orders as Tedeschi was sent off for a blatant hand ball preventing a chance for Craitland to draw level. The subsequent penalty was taken by Gaärsen, who sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.
Natopia still stuck to their game plan, and decided to replace goalscoring Stanescu with defender Steve Collins as they tried to salvage a point from the match. Although the defensive duties were the priority, the team in purple couldn't hold off the Craitish who eventually managed to get a break through after a Manta Pellegrino cross from deep allowed Hanast Pellegrino to volley it into the back of the net at the 89th minute; surely that was the winning goal.
The Craites managed to secure the win in stoppage time after Natopia tried to come back with Ismail Cunmulaj's shot blocked, leaving space for Manta Pellegrino to counter-attack. Instead of crossing, the ball was passed left towards Toby Vorgensen, who spotted Hanast with a throughball who cheekily lobbed the keeper to make it 3. All in all, it is a relief for the Craitish team, who marked themselves as favourites and top the group. However the result will probably hurt Natopia as they almost had victory in sight, but they will need to focus on the game ahead against Nova England. Meanwhile Craitland will now have to go in and play a much improved Novatainia.

Our first opening match win since 2006!
Re: 2010 FMF World Cup Official Thread
Beaugium v Monovia
St Josephat's Stadium will host the midday kick off of the Group D match between Beaugium and Monovia. The last and only time these two sides met was in 2006 when the world cup was hosted in Taesong. Beaugium, on that day thrashed the Monovian side 4-0 in a result that Monovia would want to forget and not be reminded about prior to kick off.
Beaugium are using a similar squad to the 2006 winning squad in the 4-4-2 formation with Phil Phillipson playing alongside captain Steve Stevenson instead of behind him in the usual 4-4-1-1. However there have been a few changes since then. Jack Jackson who was part of the side that won in that year will start ahead of defender James Jameson whilst Harry Harrison will replace John Johnson who is demoted to the bench. Neil Neilson also displaces Robert Robertson as the starting right back.
The men in yellow will be dependable on their two forwards as mentioned above. Steve Stevenson and Phil Phillipson, both playing in Craitland possess a great threat up front for the 2006 champions, as well as the likes of George Georgeson, Paul Paulson and in particular Sam Samson on the bench. Fred Frederickson also keeps his place in goal ahead of Romero's Ollie Oliverson.
As for Monovia, they have named a side with alot of new faces. Of the predicted starting 11 only 3 of them played in the 2006 encounter against Beaugium. With a new side with more of an Ocian look, the likes of Adam Lalic and Robert Zabavnik will look to advance from midfield. Petr Manic has been overlooked with the manager in favour of the more attack minded Zabavnik, whilst the team will now be captained by Michel Wojchiechowski for the first time as Charles Richardson loses his place in the line up to the Alexandrian based keeper Grégory Maurel. Likewise with Beaugium, Monovia's strongest place will be the forwards, and although Armand Diarra is usually considered the primary striker for the Monovian team, the Beaugian should be wary of Lucas Zaya. The BäJ striker netted 11 goals last season in the Craitish League 1 and could seem to pose a bigger threat should he continue his fine form.
Overall it looks like a stronger Monovian side, so the Beaugians should not go into this game thinking they can win again purely based on the last result. This is a different Monovian team, and they could pose a big threat should Beaugium underestimate them.
Predicted Line-ups:
Beaugium (4-4-2): 1 F Frederickson (GK), 21 N Neilson, 4 P Peterson, 14 J Jackson, 3 A Alexanderson, 13 B Benson, 8 A Alanson, 18 H Harrison, 7 A Adamson, 9 P Phillipson, 10 S Stevenson (capt).
Monovia (4-4-1-1): 18 G Maurel (GK), 22 Z Emans, 6 D Große, 14 P Nikolic, 3 L Ducourtioux, 11 J B Alain, 13 R Zabavnik, 4 M Wojchiechowski (capt), 7 A Lalic, 21 L Zaya, 9 A Diarra.
