Re: 2010 FMF World Cup Official Thread
Craitland 2-0 Valencia
Craitland go through to their fourth consecutive semi-finals with a solid victory over a gutsy Valencia side.
Hoping to improve on their below-average group display, Craitland looked to use their experience to their advantage ad record an emphatic win, while Valencia, playing in their first ever World Cup, were just out to entertain, interest and see what happened with a do-or-die ideology that is rare in football nowadays. This attitude almost gave the underdogs an early goal, with only Jack Vorgensen's reflexes stopping them taking the lead. Santi Javier, who impressed in the group stages, easily beat Jón Hjansen on the wing and cut inside to release a shot. The ball deflected off Paulio Demhivo and fell to Manny Cabrera. Vorgensen had anticipated Javier's shot coming through and had dived early, but managed to recover quickly to smother Cabrera's close shot away to Jon Larsen to clear.
After a couple of nervy defensive moments, in which some clever passing between Francesc Hernández and Juninho Santos broke-down the Craitish defence but Vorgensen was there to clean-up, Craitland took the lead on the break. Demhivo intercepted a wayward João Ricardo pass and punted the ball upfield to Markko Edmildón. The Hänävissen-ó-Cräiteland winger rounded Gonzalo Reveillère and tapped the ball back to Tommy Hjansen who dummied it as he was marked by Jesús Moreira, letting the ball run through to Toby Vorgensen on the edge of the area. Vorgensen didn't need to be told twice, and hit a low drive past Daniel Palazio's left-sided dive and into the bottom corner, kissing the foot of the post as it was driven in with feeling with the last half-hour mark approaching. Valencia, as they had before the goal, played the ball around midfield well and were unlucky with some of their more inventive passes to pick-out teammates who had beaten Craitland's offside trap with their pace, going in at half-time only one goal behind.
With neither side making any changes at the break, Valencia continued their first-half tactics, outnumbering Craitland in the centre of the park and keeping their passing sharp and crisp. Again it was Vorgensen who came to Craitland's rescue ten minutes after the restart. Valencia won a corner with Xavier Levas lined-up to take. Swinging the ball outwards, Craitland's defenders pressed forward, and the cross was met by João Ricardo. The midfielder headed the ball forward, inadvertently finding Cabrera, who volleyed a shot at goal from six yards out. Vorgensen was equal to the centrally-hit strike though and tipped it over the bar, only moving slightly to his side to get to it. The arrival of Hanast Pellegrino just after the hour mark for Tommy Hjansen sparked more cheers from the nervous Craitland supporters, as the Hänävissen-ó-Cräiteland forward has been in fantastic form of late.
Although Hanast had no immediate impact, he scored the goal that eventually killed-off Valencia's spirit, and the game, twelve minutes after being introduced to the match. A clever Yaqin Senovichi chip found Manta Pellegrino's run and the captain delivered a sublime first-time cross deep into the Valencian box. Freddie Gaärsen was at hand at the far post to head the ball back across goal, over the head of Moreira. Hanast was the first to react to Gaärsen's improvised delivery and beat his marker, Diego Camachón, to nod the ball into the top-left corner, well out the reach of Palazio to double the Craits' lead.
With that goal, Valencia's effort dropped and their slick passing of the earlier part of the game disappeared. Their attitude in the last 15 minutes was epitomised by Manny Cabrera's foul with two minutes remaining. The striker made a break towards the Craitish back line but was fairly challenged by the sliding, but experienced, Paulio Demhivo. As Demhivo continued towards the now-loose ball, Cabrera rashly kicked-out and Demhivo went down. Although pleading that he went for the ball and that Demhivo had dived, he was given his marching orders straight away. Demhivo was unable to continue, and later scans now suggest he'll miss the semi-final clash against Toketi, and was replaced by Lydveldt Hjansen for the remaining few minutes.
In the end, a comfortable scoreline for Craitland but with Demhivo out for the next game, does this mean Toketi can take advantage of a less-experienced deputy at centre-back and beat their 2007 final victors?

Toketi vs Craitland Preview
Fisherman Road has had a fair share of matches, but it can't get as big as this. The Stadium is set for a re-match of the 2007 FMF World Cup, where Toketi will be seeking to get revenge on a Craitish side that destroyed their hopes of winning on home soil back when they hosted the world cup. Jón Zyxveldtsen also has a point to prove after opting to play for his adoptive side over Craitland, following his naturalisation early in 2007 which made him eligible for Toketi. The Craitish team will be looking to advance for the third time to the final. In their last two finals, they won the tournament. As for Toketi, their aim is to be advancing for their second final appearance, their first away from home soil.
The Toketian team will look to make one change to their side. Timmu Ranjana is replaced with Tobias Elrod at left back as they look for a greater physical dominance to shake the influence of Craitish captain Manta Pellegrino on the right wing. Elsewhere the team remains unchanged, with goalkeeper Turk ronAjain keeping the captain's armband ahead of Tom Kenstein for the third match in a row. The 38 year old goalkeeper will look to bow out of the world cup on a high as he looks set to retire from the national team after the tournament. There is still no space in the team for striker Erin Jowasaki as the Dekiru Demons striker misses out with club and country team-mate Alberto Trask taking place alongside Kenstein up front.
The Craitish side make two changes to the squad. Tommy Hjansen is replaced by Hanast Pellegrino in a tactical change as they look to create and score more goals, whilst the team in white will also have to make an enforced change with Paulio Demhivo ruled out due to injury. The commanding centre back picked up the injury in the previous knockout clash against Valencia after a heavy and rash challenge from striker Manny Cabrera, and looks doubtful to play a part in the final should they progress. Sverige Tiem's Lydveldt Hjansen takes his place in the starting line-up alongside Jón Hjansen and Jon Anders Larsen.
With both teams having very competitive line-ups, it looks set to be a battle to be drawn out in the midfield. Craitland's main strong point is the midfield, with the likes of Manta Pellegrino and Markko Edmildón wanting to dominate wing play, however Toketi's on the other hand is the pace and strength of their forwards. Toketi are expected to put the ball towards Kenstein, as well as creating opportunities for Alberto Trask to run onto balls and test the keeper. The Craitish strikers are also pretty good and on form, as Hanast Pellegrino showed in their 11-0 pre-tournament demolition of minnows Incontinentia. It's looking close, but to tell you the truth the game is going to depend on the performance of both goalkeepers. Both Jack Vorgensen and Turk ronAjain are world class, but they are dependent to stop the goals from going in.
Predicted Line-ups
Toketi (4-4-2): 1 T ronAjain (GK) (capt), 2 P Neusin, 6 R Miesin, 5 N Jufirya, 16 T Elrod, 17 J Zyxveldtsen, 4 Y Faranjan, 8 N Furben, 7 I Trask, 9 A Trask, 10 T Kenstein.
Craitland (3-5-2): 1 J Vorgensen (GK), 2 J A Larsen, 4 L Hjansen, 3 J Hjansen, 7 Manta P (capt), 13 Y Senovichi, 8 T Vorgensen, 5 H Herä, 11 M Edmildón, 10 F Gaärsen, 16 Hanast P.

Hamland v Monovia Preview
As two former finalists battle it out in the other encounter at Fisherman Road, St Josaphat's Stadium sees the possibility of either side advancing to the world cup final for their first time in their nation's history. Monovia previously never managed to make it out of the group stages and are making history in this world cup as the team experiences their furthest progression during a world cup tournament, whilst Hamland has the expectation and hopes of an entire country as they look to advance to the world cup final on home soil, attempting to repeat Alexandria's success a year ago.
Hamland started off with a rocky start, after defeat in the opening match of the tournament, before beating Toketi and drawing 1-1 with Passas. Nevertheless they managed to scrape through the groups to beat Batavia in a high goal scoring battle which resulted in a 5-3 victory. Although their decision to have a last minute tactical change before the tournament in terms of formation, the new 3-5-2 Craitland-esque play seems to be providing the results that many people wanted and eagerly anticipated. Monovia on the other hand have won all their games so far in the tournament, and judging on form they look favourites to win the match.
Both teams will named unchanged line-ups from their previous matches. Monovia will continue their 4-4-1-1 formation with Armand Diarra providing the threat upfront. In contrast, his support-striker Lucas Zaya is still struggling to perform in this world cup. Like Diarra, Zaya plays in the Craitish League 1 and looked in good form for his club BäJ finishing 2nd in the top goalscorers last season. However, unlike his compatriot up front, Zaya has failed to reproduce his form at this tournament. The Monovians may be slightly disappointed with Zaya, but this game certainly holds as an opportunity for Zaya to finally shine. The Monovians will also look to captain Michel Wojchiechowski. The influential midfielder had a good game against Natopia and will look to pull the strings together for his team.
Hamland on the other hand have the lethal weapon of youngster Andrew Miller up front alongside a very clinical Benjamin Craig. The team also look to Jules Scott from the centre of midfield to drive forward to assist the striker, whilst the team also look to the centre of midfield to provide a defensive cover for the 3 at the back in defence. Their skipper is goalkeeper Rodney MacLeod, who will be ever more dependent on to save shots and prevent the opposition from scoring. Their main threat will come from the probably come wings though, as Billy McVeigh and Ronald Brown will want to create havoc and test the defence. Hamland's number 2, Ray Kartiksti will be also grateful to start the match. The player was one yellow card away from suspension however due to the bookings being wiped at the semi-final stages, the player should be able to play if the Hammish side get to the final providing he doesn't get a red card today.
Whilst Monovia are hot on form, they look the outright favourites with their 100% record. On paper, it's a different story as Hamland look to be the stronger side. We expect Monovia to play a long game and try and get Diarra in between the defenders and run against them, so Hamland will need to contain the threat of the Monovia forwards (in particular Armand Diarra) by man marking or simply sitting further back and defending deeper whilst being able to cover each other. Either way this one goes, it's going to be an interesting encounter as both sides will want to make history. If Hamland can bring some passion and spirit, then along with the thousands of fans in the stand they have a good chance of getting to the final.
Predicted Line-ups:
Hamland (3-5-2): 1 R MacLeod (GK), 2 R Kartiksti, 15 E Winters, 6 P MacKenzie, 23 B McVeigh, 16 H Antar, 10 J Scott, 5 E Martin, 7 R Brown, 11 B Craig, 21 A Miller.
Monovia (4-4-1-1): 18 G Maurel (GK), 22 Z Emans, 6 D Große, 14 P Nikolic, 3 L Ducourtioux, 11 J B Alain, 13 P Zabavnik, 4 M Wojchiechowski (capt), 7 A Lalic, 21 L Zaya, 9 A Diarra.

Just PM me with a new/updated list of players. We had to use the old ones from 06 in previous years, so it would be nice having an update. Some of the playrs are still okay to be kept, but the defensive area might need some chopping and changing. The Butter Bull wrote:Honestly, I've forgotten about this and had no idea how i even picked the team in the first place. I guess I don't understand how making up new player names will affect game play?

Toketi v Monovia Preview
This may not be the result that they wanted, but both Toketi and Monovia will battle it out for a consolation 3rd place at the Morfaga Heroes Memorial Stadium. Judging by the semi-final results, it seems that both teams will be coming off huge disappointments of not making the final; however both teams should be pleased that they have progressed this far in the tournament.
Toketi started off with a 2-1 victory at Holback Street on the opening day of the tournament after coming back from 1-0 down against Passas, before losing to hosts Hamland 3-1 in their second game, partially due to a Benjamin Craig quick double fire early on. However, the Toketians were fortunate enough to be in a position where all teams were tied on 3 points and into the final game, despite an early scare the team managed to sail through with another comeback thanks to a scorcher by Tom Kenstein. The result meant that Toketi finished top of their group, and would face 2nd place of Group B Stormark in the next round. Instead of having to comeback from behind to win the match, the Toketi side took the authority in the quarter-finals, leading 3-0 into the first half. Despite Aki Mäenpää trying to level the game out in the second half, they managed to hold on for a 3-1 victory, setting them up with a rematch with fellow 2007 finalists Craitland in the semi-finals. However the same result happened in that encounter as in the final 3 years ago - with Craitland winning. Although it wasn't for the first time in the tournament, the Toketi side were caught out in defence; however against a less forgiving Craitish side, the result was one sided and humiliation as Craitland thrashed their opposition 4-0.
Monovia on the other hand went all the way to the semi-finals to mark their most successful world cup campaign. The Monovians previously qualified but never made it out of the groups. Striker Armand Diarra has been a key player for them throughout the tournament. After coming back from 1-0 to beat the 2006 World Champions Beaugium 2-1, the Monovians went on to a string of superb victories. Wins against Valencia and Holzborg ensured the the men in black progressed through the groups with a 100% record. Their run continued when facing fellow CTFA members Natopia in a 3-1 win in a match they truly dominated. However when facing Hamland in the semi-final, the 100% record was crushed as late form from Hamland surpassed the early Monovian form. Despite not having any goalscoring problems in previous matches, Monovia failed to hit the back of the net, and with Hamland playing much deeper in defence than other teams, the pace and physical presences of Armand Diarra and Lucas Zaya were close to ineffectual. Going against a tough team and thousands of home fans cheering on the host nation, Hamland managed to beat Monovia 3-0.
Both teams look to play the same teams as they did despite their defeats in the semi-final. Turk ronAjain retains captaincy for what will be his final game for the Toketian team, whilst they look to the Trask brothers and wondergoal scorer Tom Kenstein to deliver the goods in attack. Monovia on the other hand will also be dependent on their forwards Armand Diarra and Lucas Zaya to deliver some goods, after they both were found to be ineffectual in their previous semi-final clash against Hamland. Michel Wojchiechowski will try to pull the strings in the midfield as he takes the armband once again after Grégory Maurel is chosen ahead of Charles Richardson in goal, meaning that the actual Monovian captain has not actually played a game at this world cup and has effectively been replaced as captain by Wojchiechowski.
Looking on paper, it seems like a one sided result. Toketi look the far stronger team on paper, however the Monovian passion cannot be underestimated. We have to think about the two things that will make this game here. 1: Can Toketi prove that they are all worth their money and duly deliver with the quality they have in their squad, and 2: Do Monovia have anything left in terms of form following their 3-0 defeat against Hamland? It will all be revealed in Morfaga tonight as the 55,321 inside the Morfaga Heroes Memorial Stadium and the rest of Micras awaits!
