Ocia (officially the Ocian Federation), is a nation on the Micran continent of Keltia, in the central eastern region bordering Lake Morovia (known as Svobodna Lake in Ocia). Ocia is influenced by a temporal and seasonal Alpine climate. Ocia's largest city and financial hub is November City, while the considerably smaller city of Directus serves as the administrative capital of the Federation.

According to the nation's historians a region named the Kingdom of Eurasia, which was inhabited by Ocian Peoples has been documented as existing before 1700AD. This multinational kingdom subjugated Ocians under the rule of non Ocians and sent the nation into a struggle for independence. Modern Ocia itself was founded in 2007 and led by President Matt Kovac for consecutive terms, it is the only Semi-Presidential Republic on Micras. Since modern Ocia's inception it has remained at the forefront of the anti-imperialist struggle on Micras and it is best known for its long standing cold war with Babkha (2007-2008), which originated in the Ocian Leadership's rejection of the mainstream control larger nations on Giess had over international affairs. The determination to remain under complete Self Management without the interference of foreign powers drove Ocia to carry out its own interests on the world stage. At one time, the Ocian Federation was a multi ethnic-multi national Federation of four republics joined together by Free will and the desire to live under a democratic, centralized and prosperous system with common values. These former republics include Luthoria, Amokolia, Iridia, Slaventia.

In 2008 an intense political standoff following presidential elections resulted in Ocia evolving into two distinct political entities (the Democratic Republic of Ocia 'coined the DRO' ran by Kovac in the West and the Federal Republic of Ocia in the east led by Dervin and rogue elements of other Ocian Political movements). The Reunification of the Ocian Federation occurred in 2009 following the 'One Ocia Movement' and a propaganda and intelligence war between the East and the West eventually ending at the signing of the One Ocia accord. Ocia single handily fought against a coalition of 7 other aggressors during the unprovoked Amokolian War from September 1st 2009 to October 2009. Although the Ocian Federation lost most of its Overseas protectorates in the war it managed to defend it's homeland territories. As of Late Ocia has been experiencing a cultural Renaissance as the nation enters a period of revitalization.

History

Government and politics

Throughout its history Ocia has championed its founding democratic principles as some of the freest and fairest on Micras however these elections have often become the cause of several controversies and scandals which have notoriously plagued Ocian politics. Ocia’s democracy has been responsible for the nation reaching its zenith in 2008 and conversely it has also been attributed to causing the partition of Ocia into East and West in 2009, given the aforementioned facts the topic of Democracy and its future in Ocia remains controversial.

According to the constitution of the Ocian Federation the government is a semi-Presidential republic with a president acting as head of state and the Prime Minister as head of government. The President is elected for a term of up to 6 months during normal times (when the active citizenry level is at or exceeds 4) and the Prime Minister serves for up the 4 months or as long as it maintains the confidence of the Ocian Federal Assembly. According to the Ocian constitution the President may dissolve the Federal Assembly in any circumstance except during a national emergency or during a period when the active citizenry is less then 3.

Ocia's constitution describes the framework of government as a Federation or Federal Republic, however; in reality Ocia functions as a unitary state with central authority resting with the Federal Assembly and President. Ocia can consider itself a Federation because autonomous regions within Ocia can reserve the right to have their own regional assembly which can pass laws affecting local level issues such as transportation or investment.

The Federal Assembly of Ocia is elected using a proportional representation method whereby political parties are awarded seats according to the approximate percentage of votes they receive. In the past popular political parties have included the Liberal Democracy of Ocia (founded by Matt Kovac and Michael Dervin) the Conservative Party of Ocia (led by Kakali of Luthoria) the Libertarian Party of Ocia, The Socialist Democratic Party of Ocia, the Ocian National Party and the One Ocia party to name a few.

Military and Foreign Relations

Former and Current overseas territories

In 2007 the Kingdom of Monovia joined the Ocian Federation and became the first autonomous region. Other autonomous nations or regions which have joined the Ocian Federation include; Iridia, Amokolia, Slaventia, Luthoria and most recently in 2012 the Walker Democracy.

At one time the Ocian Federation maintained an expansive network of overseas territories such as Piran and Dalmantia but many of these were lost to Shireroth and Antica in attacks during the Great Patriotic War Against Fascism.

In 2008 the former Ocian colony of Dalmantia was attacked by Adraisia but the overseas territory was retaken after a Naval bombardment and Special Forces attack from the 22.5 Brigade of the Ocian Defence Forces.

Geography

The Eastern and western coastal areas of Ocia experience relatively mild climates throughout the year. Much of the interior of the southern two-thirds of the country experiences a temperate climate, with significant swings in temperature and weather throughout the year. The northern part of the country (predominantly surrounding the city of Notranskja) endure a subarctic temperature.

Because of the high latitude of the southern and western parts of Ocia, there are wide changes in the amount of wind and cold climate since the Ocian Alps in the western and southern part of the country are isolated by the Ocian alps.

Transportation has been highly developed in the Ocian Federation. The OciaWay Motorway is a link of well maintained highways with no general speed limit that run through the main cities and the center of the Ocian Federation. This link has streamlined the road system and allowed for speedy travel across the Federation. An inter-coastal highway follows the coastline of Northern Ocia and Lake Morovia in an impressive array of causeways and bridge links to lead to the capital Directus.

Culture

National Symbols

The Flag of the Ocian Federation is a 1:1:1 horizontal tricolor adapted on December 20, 2010 by Presidential decree. The white represents nobility and frankness, the sky blue represents loyalty and honesty and the final shade of light blue represents tranquility. In the center left of the flag rests an Ocian Eagle (an animal revered in Ocian tradition for its bravery) and in the center of the eagle rests Ocia's civil symbol of circular unity which is interrupted by the Ocian Alps at the top. The previous flag which is called the banner of unity is now the civil ensign of the Ocian Federation.

The government of the Ocian Federation uses an Ocian alpine bear as it's symbol because it represents strength and self reliance. The decision to have the bear as the symbol of the government was influenced by the wartime account of Lt. Andrej Drnovsek a heroic veteran of the battle of Lucern.
