Hempton Bay is the largest city of the Warring Islands, located on Great Warring Island. The city has been a constant site of settlement for over a thousand years, with conflict often leaving its mark on the city. During the War of the Casks much of the long abandoned city was destroyed by the occupying Sea Reavers. With the original Nova English population moved on by foreign occupiers following the Great Disaster, the city was largely devoid of habitation prior to its reintegration into the Faedertellus under Operation Feng.

The city itself acted as a hub for the resettlement of the Warring Islands and the local administration until the collapse of Nova England in 1698, after which the city (along with Great Warring Island) became occupied by the Hurmu Peace Corps.

Hunbald Weller, the former mayor of the port, was taken into custody by the Hurmu Constabulary on 5.XIV.1699. In his stead, Wolstan Darley, captain of the Fire Squadron of the Maritime Support Group, took possession of administrative compound and thereby control of the port, governing officially on behalf of the District of the Warring Islands established in Port Esther.

The period of rule by Hurmu would see the town eclipsed by Port Esther as the main settlement of the islands.

The Hempton Bay Humanist Institute was established in the second month of 1732 AN in the town. It was the first Humanist Institute to be founded in the Warring Islands following their integration into the Union-State in 1710 AN.

Points of Interest

  • Taylor Bay War Memorial; A monument located in front of the ruins of St John's Cathedral in memorial for the Nova English lives lost during the Taylor Bay War. The statue which features a Nova English soldier holding the national flag, was badly damaged following foreign occupation and used as target practice by board Sea-Reavers. However despite it pockmarked appearance it remains standing as a symbol of Nova English resilience.

Security

Regiments of the Hurmu Peace Corps assigned to Hempton Bay are garrisoned in a cantonment (HPC Hempton Bay) enclosing the harbour facilities and an adjacent landing strip.

Access to Hempton Bay from the fjord is controlled via a harbour defence boom operated by the 29th Harbour Defence Regiment. The boom, consisting of two steel chains spanning the harbour mouth, from which was hung anti-submarine netting, was operated by two sets of parallel winching towers. Sonar bouys and an observation post were also placed at the entrance to the Hempton Fjord.

The harbour facilities themselves are operated by the 9th Port and Maritime Regiment.

The protected anchorage serves as a base of operations for three armed cutters crewed by the 31st Offshore Patrol Regiment.

A minimal landing strip is maintained at Hempton Bay by a detachment from the 117th Aviation Base Regiment.

For the purpose law enforcement, the settlement received monthly visits by the Overseas Auxiliary Squadron of the Hurmu Constabulary. The community is expected to be self-policing and any person not subject to the discipline of the HPC who is deemed to have committed a crime is to be held at a lock-up in the town, awaiting collection by the auxiliary constabulary for conveyance to Port Esther for formal trial by the district authorities.

The Maritime Support Group operates the Fire Squadron from Hempton Bay, comprising of a nominal force of a regimental strength contingent of reavers and twenty-three armed trawlers.
