Re: Official War Thread
Summary: Andreas, Frederick and Caspian, all non-orbatted units, talk about the recent attack, Novatainian law, the strange nature of dual citizenship, and how loyal civilians should help recover stolen property.Andreas was walking the grounds of his academy. Defences had recently undergone a major reworking, and while much work was still to be done at Illumo, the academy was basically complete. Andreas was reviewing it, along with two of his followers and key commanders - Frederick and Caspian.
The grounds of the academy were lovely this time of year. They were lovely any time of the year, but in early summer in particular all the flowers were out, fruit was hanging succulently off the trees, ready to be picked, and most of the students spent their idle hours at the beach, leaving the grounds blissfully quiet. Which was just what Andreas and co. needed to properly double check the defences.
"How goes the war, by the way?" Frederick asked. It sounded an idle question, but Andreas knew his friend too well.
"Well enough," he replied. "They do not need your assistance."
Frederick sighed. "You know me too well, M'Lord."
"I do," Andreas replied. "Though Shireroth has officially declared neutrality in the conflict, with the ascension of Kaiser Agni. That removes many potential further foes."
"Shireroth is a sleeping behemoth," Caspian observed. "With so many of their key people fighting for Nelaga, it was unlikely they could be awoken to fight the other way."
"Well ..." Frederick began, then squinted. "What's that student doing here? Why isn't he at the beach?"
"Not everyone goes to the beach, it's not a crime," Andreas replied, casting a lazy glance at the student, then returning his attention to the defences.
"He's coming towards us," Frederick observed. "And running."
Andreas sighed, and stopped, waiting for the student to arrive. Caspian melted into the background, as was his habit.
"Message, M'Lord," the student spluttered. "Toketi's been attacked!"
"Toketi? By who?" Andreas demanded.
"Mercenaries or something," the student replied. "They've appeared across the nation, struck various civilians sites, and broken into a facility in Damev."
"CAA?" Andreas asked, now alert.
"Yes," the student replied. "It was an urgent message, and they want a response, but it took a while to find you ..."
"Thankyou," Andreas said. "Tell them I'll reply later. You've done well."
"Thanks M'Lord," the student replied, and hurried off.
"Well, that's one for the books," Frederick said. "A war that shouldn't logically ever spill out of the Jasonian isles, and Toketi's attacked."
"To capture CAA equipment, obviously," Caspian replied. "Mercenaries ... I wonder how they found out. I didn't believe CAA was too well known outside of Toketi."
"Field reports of forces in the Jasonian war, probably," Andreas replied.
"But what are we going to do about it?" Caspian asked. "All our legal war forces are far from here, and we're not going to be able to get them back fast."
"Caspian, you recall when CITRA 2 hit the streets, Bayen forced us to lay off a number of Dark Watchers. Particuarly the Academy Trained ones. Do you still have their numbers?" Andreas asked.
"Why yes I do ..." Caspian said, beginning to smile.
"And Frederick, can you get in contact with King Prodigy? North is otherwise occupied, but Prodigy should be able to answer this. I want to know exactly what's taken, what needs to be recovered, and what might contain Durium. It's CAA, something has to have Durium."
Frederick began to smile too. "Durium's dual-planar, isn't it?"
"Exactly," Andreas said, grinning. "They can't sneak the equipment into here or Skoitamashu, and I doubt they'd even know how to begin looking for Taonas. Those are the only big stores they could disguise it by. Without that, we'll be able to track that Durium anywhere on Micras."
"You're too crafty sometimes, M'Lord," Frederick said. "But aren't we not legally allowed to respond?"
"My dear Frederick, are you calling me military?" Andreas joked. "I'm merely a 'loyal civilian' proposing to 'recover' some stolen equipment from some petty thieves. With some of my legally civilian friends." Frederick's smile grew wider.
"Permission to lead this expedition?" Caspian asked.
"Only if Frederick and I can come too," Andreas replied. "This sounds like it'll be fun." Caspian laughed and agreed.
"A thought occurs, M'Lord," Frederick began. "Longbow and North are both Novatainian citizens, are they not?"
"They are," Andreas answered.
"And as such their lands could come under Novatainian law, couldn't they? Specifically the law regarding War Crimes, and the Government Knows Best Act."
Andreas smiled demonically. "Frederick, ideas like that are almost too evil for the Academy. I love it."
"But doesn't that act refer to police, especially the Chief thereof?" Caspian asked, slightly confused.
"Caspian, my dear," Andreas said, putting one arm over his shoulder, "there's a little document round here we call the Constitution. According to it, who does ultimate power over the police rest with?"
"The Joker," Caspian answered promptly.
"Yes, but who is above the Joker? Who supreme judicial power rests with?" Andreas prompted.
"Ah ..." Caspian said, smiling again. "I'll get onto those Dark Watchers then, shall I?"
"No hurry," Andreas replied. "We can track them anywhere, remember ..."
Summary: Defences for Nova Kajar basically done (it's only small). Defence efforts moving towards Bryden. Other forces on High Alert moving near the Channels on Provost (but the units remain on Nelaga island and outside of Hyperborean gunshot, obviously). Ben requests that Longbow construct basic civilian defences for Sai'Por and Fides do so for Thassala Bone.Meanwhile, on Nelaga ...
Sergeant at Arms Ben Gryphon was happy. Basic defences for Nova Kajar were going well, and with Fides moving to Thassala Bone, he could be delegated to handle the defences of that city. Longbow similiarly could do Sai'Por. So Ben was moving back towards Bryden to deal with that city. More worrying were reports of the Hyperboreans digging huge channels. Darn Hyperborean ingenuity. Ben could see where *that* was going. He considered if it qualified as "defence of Nelaga" to act upon it. As a Sergeant, he decided that was a reasonably valid interpretation of his orders. He radioed off a request to one of Nicholas' Helicopters, to drop a message to the Hyperboreans. It was simple and to the point.
"We're not fools. Keep digging civilian defences, by all means, but stop work on the two big channels. If you don't, we'll have no choice but to bomb you again. Well away from the towns, this time."
He hoped that would buy him some time while he worked out a real solution. In the meantime, those parts of the army not dealing with civilian defences were moving along Nelaga towards that side of Provost, on high alert. Particuarly those ones with long distance missiles. Ben hoped Mel'Kat would return with a brilliant solution and he wouldn't have to use them.
EDIT: Oh, and if it wasn't obvious, these orders are only for my land force. The fleet stays in it's previous position, still ready to respond should the Omen need it.

Re: Official War Thread
Summary: Max heard about subs moving towards the troops west of Ardy's Reach and took action to prevent serious damage. Furthermore, he heard about the Omen's plans. He anticipated on it and explained what he's going to do about the Omen. He has send out a SOS to all other troops, asking to help.West of Ardy's Reach
Max could not sleep. He worried about the arrival of the Omen. Considering all tactics over and over again in his bed, he was called by his servant once again. It was not the red phone, but the servant sounded like it was serious.
"Sir! We've founded out some detailed information about the reactions of the enemy troops. Some will try to send submarines to us, so they can shoot us from underneath the surface. The Omen thinks we are just with five ships. I don't know if they calculated our airforce division in, but I'm sure they did not notice our subs. The Omen is closing."
"Thanks servant, you have proven your worth, once!'
Max immediately called the submarines first. "You both should know, submarines are sailing towards us. Stay down and load your torpedo's. Attack them if needed en keep the ICBMs manned. We will need them. Try to avoid that our ships are hit by enemy submarines. We shall be busy enough with the Omen. On the other hand, we are seriously lucky that the Omen did not notice your presence. Shoot the Omen at my command with ICBMs. It still might sound like some crazy idea, but I think it's the only way to seriously damage the damn thing."
Next, Max called Enhasa. "Lieutenant Van Dijk, fly your five fighters and your ten bombers immediately to the region of Ardy's Reach and keep them in the air. The same for the Multi-Purpose Helicopters. I want them ready if the Omen arrives. Oh yeah, arm yourselves with light emitting bullets."
The third call was to the Z.M. Vermeylen, situated near the eastern border with Interland. "Captain Emmer, make sure the five fighters situated on the ship immediately move to Ardy's Reach and join up with the Vliegende Hert division. Arm them with light emitting bullets. They have their commands."
The last call was to all other ships. "Get your weapons armed. The Omen is close!"
Max also send out a SOS to the allied troops in the region: "Please help us. Are in need. Omen will attack within short time."
Two hours later, at the same location
"Sir, the Omen seems to be close. It is flying northwest of us, but we can't shoot it yet. We cant see it either, because it flies above the clouds." It was the servant again, on the phone.
"Thank you, servant. I need you to arrange a conference call with everyone, so I can tell everyone exactly what to do," Max said.
This was arranged quickly.
"Men, the Omen is closing. It uses the most terrible weapons when attacking and it will use it on us. We do not have exact information about the range of their weapons, but I assume it is pretty large. The Omen can fly enormously high, but I think our bombers might be able to fly above the thing and bomb it. The fighters can shoot it from the air. Why I am telling you this and not some plan which includes waiting for them to be above us, is because I think they have spotted us and will attack us if they have the opportunity to. Anyway, if they attack, the first step is to shoot and bomb the humongous vessel from the air, using our planes. This does not includes our ten multi-purpose helicopters, only our 10 bombers and 10 fighters. The commands for the bombers are to search for weak spots and bomb them. If you cannot find any, just bomb it. The fighters must aim for their weapons. It will be most handy if they would have decreased firepower. When the Omen gets in the range of our rockets, grenades and artillery, we will use everything we have. We only have one problem: the Omen is above the clouds, so we cannot see it. Therefore the planes have light emitting bullets in their guns. These bullets emit red light, so we should be able to see them. The best we can do is aim for the red lights... When the Omen gets close enough, we use the ICBMs as a surprise attack. They do not know we will do this, so they should be suprised. When the Omen gets close enough, we will shoot it with ICBMs. We can shoot them with our ICBMs in the beginning of the attack, but I don't know if the ICBMs will be accurate enough. We simply can't spill one of them."
A few minutes later, Max heard some loud bangs. "Okay, everybody in positions! Let's do it!"

Re: Official War Thread
The former Nang Municipal Hospital had been turned into a field hospital for the injured. Most of those who had succumbed to Thursday's bombing attacks had already either succumbed or recovered, but a few last soldiers just couldn't make up their minds whether to live or die. Tephi had already been in once for the requisite Officer Tells The Wounded Soldiers How Important Their Sacrifices Were ritual. This time was different. This time he was looking for someone.
"Only one hundred ten soldiers are currently in our clinic," said Nurse Julia, a native Maraguan who'd chosen to stay behind to help the medical procedures. "Sixty from the bombings, and the rest from the usual infections and accidents. A few people injured during the digging. Were you looking for anyone in particular?"
"I'd like to talk to...whoever's worst off," said Tephi. "Someone who has, ah, given their all for the cause. Words of encouragement, and all that."
"Yes," said Nurse Julia. If she thought the request odd, she didn't show it. "There's a Mr. Molenaar in the critical ward. A schoolteacher from Nang whom we didn't manage to evacuate before the bombings. He wasn't well enough to head out on the Nova English ships. We've been trying to save it, but he's really on the edge."
"He sounds perfect," said Tephi. "Let me talk to him." Nurse Julia led him and Nele down darkened corridors lit only by generator power until they came to a in the critical ward. The chart on the door read "Molenaar, James." Inside was a middle-aged man connected to tubes of IV fluid. An ECG beeped unenthusiastically every second or so.
"Ah, there you are," said Tephi.
"You know him?" asked the nurse?
"Not as such," said the commander.
"Gal Sekion," rasped Mr. Molenaar. "I've heard of you. You're the one leading the troops defending Nang. Fat lot of good you've done."
"We tried our best."
"Yes, I'm sure. It's not your fault anyway. Damn Nelagans, they were always jealous of us. I remember back when I was young it was about tariffs and who could cross the river. And now it's gotten to bombs and bullets. A shame. And I shouldn't be so harsh on you. You people came all the way from the edge of the world to defend us. I just feel like, it's the edge of the world. I've been teaching here thirty years now. Nang was a nice city. Now it's gone. Even if they rebuild it..."
"I'm looking for Time," said Tephi.
"And you've found eternity," laughed Mr. Molenaar. "Don't believe what they say about death making you wise or whatever. All I know that I didn't know this time last week was that I should've enjoyed what I had more when I had it, instead of worrying about the future and fall that. One day you have all the time in the world, the next you're on a stretcher with a shard of metal from a Novan bomb through your leg."
"Look, we're both on the same side here..." Tephi began.
"Look, I'm sorry for saying the bombings were your fault. I'm sure you did your best to prevent them. You don't need to convince me you're a good guy. I know you are. You have my blessing. Can you ask the nurse to bring in a priest or something? I don't even care what religion. But I'm looking for time too, and I don't think I have much left."
"I need to know what this is." Tephi held out a small box. Inside, tied down with heavy-duty steel wire, was a glowing shard of rock. It seemed to strain against its bonds, as if it were trying to fall up.
James Molenaar's eyes lit up. "That brings me back to my childhood," he said. "My parents used to tell me never to go play in the caves near Sai'Por, because if we went into the wrong tunnel, we'd end up coming out somewhere else. You know, the mythical Jasonian islands sideways to the real ones. I used to tell my students the legends. Sunscorch, Aquata, Icebound, Eclipse. Same with the legends of the old tunnels under the island. Which were lit by rocks like that one. They said if you dug deep enough, you'd come to layers where it was just that, and then you'd be lost to the world. Never seen any myself till this day, but...". He started coughing and rasping.
Nele's eyes seemed to focus, as if she was only now realizing where she was. She tapped Tephi on the shoulder.
"Oh, yes," he said, apologetically. "Yes. Yes yes yes. Uh. I am a priest, actually. I was a priest of Yaanek, once. I can do the rites. No. You stay back. One minute, that's all I ask." He kicked the air once. Then he stood up to his full height and sang, with outstretched hands.
Nothing ever will be lost to thee
Thou will dwell again in Shinomai
Truth and Beauty will dwell next to thee
And all will be at peace
All is not as it appears to be
Seek in things the secret symmetry
Thou art tesselated endlessly
Through worlds more real than these
As he spoke, he circled his hands above the dying man's face. By the time he was done, Molenaar's eyes were closed and the ECG had stopped beeping.
He turned to Nurse Julia. "Are you happy now? Are you? Get out."
Confused, tears in her eyes, the nurse ran.

Standing beside him was a much taller form, wearing a black robe with a black cowl and carrying a black staff and a black sword. He was watching the ECG intently, but it was clear that his interest was far from medical.
"Ah, there you are," said Tephi.
Mors, God of Death, turned to look at Tephi. His face was not a skull, as is popularly imagined. He had no face. Inside the cowl was only blackness. You wished to speak to me, then? he asked Tephi.
"Not as such," Tephi said.
Yet you have come to me nevertheless, said the god. Easy I am to find here. Wherever men turn upon one another in violence, I am there. Wherever toil and suffering make mortals despair of earthly existence, you may find me. And the people of this isle you defend are despairing, oh yes, I watch them in their despair.
"We tried our best," Tephi protested through clenched teeth.
You have not come to mince words with me. What would you, child of clay?
"I am looking for Time," said Tephi.
So is he said the god, gesturing at Molenaar, but he will not find much more of it. Tephi paused briefly, wondering if the Lord of Death had actually just cracked a joke. But he seemed to take the Hyperborean's meaning well enough. He gestured with one immaterial arm at the point to his right. There was a smell of musty books and a twinkle in the air like a fast-motion video, and Sakat, God of Time, appeared beside the ECG. He, too, studied it for a moment, took out an hourglass, and compared the ECG to the hourglass. The hourglass was almost completely empty.
Sakat pointed a tentacular arm to Tephi. You wish to speak to me?, asked Time. He gestured menacingly at the rapidly draining hourglass.
"Look, we're both on the same side here..." Tephi began.
A chromatophoric flash of anger ran down Sakat's skin. Forced to parley with things of clay and dust to frustrate Enlightenment's mad plots, indeed I have been reduced to such. May Balgurd take Meskan and his pawns. Very well, what would you?
"I need to know what this is." Tephi held out a small box. Inside, tied down with heavy-duty steel wire, was a glowing shard of rock. It seemed to strain against its bonds, as if it were trying to fall up.
Sakat took it in a spectral tentacle and examined it with his huge, luminous eye. He began to stroke it softly and lovingly. One of my treasures, he said. Part of what makes these islands fly. Tephi had long since given up expecting past tense from the God of History: past, present, and future were all one to Sakat. The Microns forge a wonderfully complex system of anti-gravity, which even the mighty Jasonian Empire barely understands. These are the muscles of the island, so to speak. They run in a plexus beneath the rock, but yourwhen they exert force but weakly. Otherwhen, the brain of the system activates and they exert force strongly, levitating the entire system. This is your part to play, but not in your when. Sakat glanced at his hourglass. It had run out. This man dies in your when. You should give him the last rites, else he is an impurity in Time nextwhen.
Mors, who had continued watching the ECG, straightened up as it ceased its spikes and beeps.
"No. You stay back. One minute, that's all I ask." He kicked at the god, driving him back. Then he stood up to his full height and sang, with outstretched hands.
Nothing ever will be lost to thee
Thou will dwell again in Shinomai
Truth and Beauty will dwell next to thee
And all will be at peace
All is not as it appears to be

As he spoke, he circled his hands above the dying man's face. By the time he was done, Molenaar's eyes were closed and the ECG had stopped beeping.
Mors drew up the sleeve of his robe, revealing a single finger of his body. It was no particular color, and made of something less than even bone. Fear, perhaps. He pointed it at James Molenaar. YOU. COME WITH ME. He reached in his pocket, took out a little laser pointer - no scythe for this reaper - and shone it upon the sick man's face. The dot, of course, was black.
Then he glided out of the room. Something both more and less than James Molenaar glided with him.
Tephi turned to the door, where the two had just passed behind the nurse. "Are you happy now? Are you? Get out."
Confused, tears in her eyes, the nurse ran out.
SUMMARY: Backstory. The odd rock seems to be part of the island's old anti-gravity system. Tephi has heard the Novans' threat to bomb the island if they continue digging trenches. He has ordered all possible precautions to be taken but plans to continue digging anyway. In the hospital corridor, General Scussion caught up with him. "Where have you been, Commander? We've been looking for you for half an hour!"
"I was visiting an old friend, Dick," said Tephi.
"It better have been a very good friend," said Scussion, seething. "The whole camp's been running around like a chicken with its head cut off after the latest message from Kajar!"
"It was a very good friend," said Tephi, who seemed preoccupied.
"The only truly dependable friend any of us will ever have," added Nele.
Scussion sighed. "The Novans have figured out what the trenches are for. At least we think they have. They didn't say so in so many words. But they've said they're going to bomb us if we don't stop digging them."
"And the other thing?" asked Tephi.
Scussion only smiled. Then, realizing Tephi couldn't see his smile, he said "Yes. Taken care of."
"Well," said Tephi, "Let's keep digging. Not stupidly, of course. Only at night, and make sure to keep everyone under cover or in trenches during the day. Start the usual preparations for air attack, and see if we can sneak some men or flycycles out over the barricades so that we'll know exactly when Nova Kajar launches its bombers. Aside from that, we'll just have to hope for the best."
Scussion was clearly going to protest. The order hadn't been at all what he expected. The horror of those first few days seemed unlikely to be repeated, now that everyone was better prepared, but it still seemed like they were inviting trouble for a very uncertain gain. "I see," he said. "Very well, commander. Thank you for your orders. And I hope your old friend is doing well."
"Oh," said Tephi, "he'll be thrilled when he hears your news."
"About the bombers?" asked Scussion. "The threat of more air raids? That will make him thrilled?" But Tephi just sighed and said nothing.

OOC: Max, it was extremely tempting to 24-hour you last night and have you eat lots of fun lasers. As it was, I was feeling a bit sporting so decided to give you longer to reply so we could have a nice showdown. Don't expect it to happen again.
I have a long day of packing and driving ahead of me, but I think I'll be able to get in a post sometime later before my own 24 hours are up to deal with your preparations and start the good fight.

OOC: Maximilian, hurry up and post your losses or replies to the Omen's attack! There is a big plan on how to destroy all your units, and we can't put it into action unless SaiKar 24hrs you or you respond to the attack.

Re: Official War Thread
OOC: Max, what Nick means, if it wasn't clear, was the bit of the Omen's attack where Harvey specifically began firing lasers on you. Your post is good at detailing the general thrust of your strategy, but ignores that particular point.
If Jeroen doesn't attack the Omen but comes more than 2/3's of the way from Maraguo to Nang, he'll be radioed with a message warning him he's within the Novatainian patrol area and ordering him to turn back. If he doesn't, we'll fire on him.
Summary: Mel'Kat's naval forces (my land troops may make a move later today) are on their patrol near the Maraguon side of Nelaga, as said yesterday. They've noticed Jeroen's fleet, which unlike Max's fleet is not yet engaged by the Omen. If Jeroen launches ICBM's or other attacks on the Omen, NSS Pragma and NSS Salmon will fire upon the ships that launch the attacks. NSS Des and NSS Troy will engage Jeroen's Diesel Sub, and then his Battleship. By that point he'll have responded and I'll do the rest of the Navies attack in another post. All that is IF Jeroen launches attacks on the Omen."Admiral," an aide cried, "we're receiving reports that another Batavian fleet has entered the area between Maraguo and Nang. They may or may not be intending to rescue the Paladins, though we expect they're planning to focus on the Omen."
"Well, they would be fools not to know of our patrols in the area," Mel'Kat replied. "They're in clear violation of our extended soverignty over the area. Prepare the ships."
"We're going to fire on them, without warning?" the aide asked.
"They're nearing our patrol zone. They should consider themselves already warned," Mel'Kat replied. It was a tough thing to say, but wars required tough thinking ... unfortunately. "However," he added, "we shall not fire until they show hostile signs. You say they're preparing to attack the Omen? If so, the moment they launch a strike, we fire back at them. If they come more than 2/3s of the way from Maraguo to Nang, we radio an order for them to turn back. That's what we're here for - to protect the Omen and the Paladins."
"Our intel suggests they have a limited air defence, and the major threat to the Omen is via their Carrier. It's been modified to launch ICBMs."
"Well," Mel'Kat replied, "We'll target that first. We've got the destroyers to deal with air. Any specific anti-sub defences?"
"None we can determine. They have several cruisers, but that's AA. Their helicopters are only general purpose. And they have a single Diesel Sub," the aide added.
"Well, that'll be Des and Troy's first target."
If Jeroen doesn't attack the Omen but comes more than 2/3's of the way from Maraguo to Nang, he'll be radioed with a message warning him he's within the Novatainian patrol area and ordering him to turn back. If he doesn't, we'll fire on him.

OOC:Until Chris has access to a computer, I'm stuck and can post nothing but backstory. My unit is currently aboard transports being escorted to the field of battle by Chris's carrier group, so I am unable to do anything in the way of independent, strategic action until Chris returns and the situation of the Antican-Lovelian naval battle is resolved. So, please do not be annoyed if I post little until that time.

Summary: Just letting you know I'm still here and my units are active. The forces at Bryden are helping Andreas' troops with whatever defensive work they can.Astoris Orinin, General of the Tokian Expeditionary Forces under Korstokk, grumbled into his coffee. Lucas and Korstokk ran off to Nang, leaving Astoris and the rest of the ground forces here in Bryden with nothing to do.
One of the Silverfang Wolves knocked on the door. The Wolves had watch duty today. Astoris grunted for him to enter. The heavily armored soldier complied, entering the tent and taking off his helmet with a salute.
"Sir, some of the Novatainian forces have come from Nova Kajar. They've been setting up defenses around there and are coming here to do the same, using these two cities as forward bases for the Nelagan armies."
"Good, what can we do?" Astoris asked, leaning forward. Finally, SOMETHING to do!
"I don't know sir," the watchman replied honestly. "Do you want me to ask for a Novatainian liaison?"
"Yes, have them send someone with a list of things they need and things they need done," Astoris told him. "I need to get some exercise, I'm tired of just sitting here! And if we can't have combat, dammit, this is better than nothing."

Action in the Air
"Bombs Away!", screamed Dell Archer into his headset. A few mechanical noises later, two dumb bombs fell off from both wings. The last of the bomb loads, authorised for the primary target, had been released. His four bombs, coupled with his wingman's further four were free falling down on what remained of Port of Sails. The missile strike earlier in the day had taken a massive toll on the infrastructure and population of Port of Sails. Now, within hours, this two-aircraft strike of four bombs was going to make it even harder to salvage anything from Port Of Sails. Any buildings that were still standing had been identified and these bombs were dropped in order to cause significant wide-spread damage to them. The idea was not to cause confusion or raise panic, but total destruction of the town. Or village, whatever one would call it.
"Moving to approach point for secondary target."
Dell Archer's mission was simple, though it wasn't the only one he had performed today. Earlier, he had participated in the raid on the only enemy airfield in the region. And given, that the enemy had very little to fight with, more missions could be undertaken by the pilots. The idea was that before the enemy could become significant, the pilots would strain themselves into undertaking as many missions as possible. Then, when the enemy was closing in, either the enemy would have a hard time to fight the pilots because of the superiority in terms of numbers and support systems for Dell and his copilots, or the entire group might simply pack bags and leave the destroyed town behind. Either ways, rest for the pilots and other staff would soon come. Given that, Dell's current mission was quite simple. He had to fly to Port of Sails first, drop four bombs, and then fly to a secondary target in the country side. There he had to deliever another payload of weapons and then, if time was available, there were other bonus targets in the region. With no enemy presence nearby, Dell had all the time in the world, provided he had enough fuel, to achieve success on primary, secondary and several bonus goals. Infact, he could stay in the air longer, thanks to the refueling tanker that was flying over the waters to the East. And if enemy aircrafts dared to show up, first of Dell would wonder where those guys flew in from. The nearest airfield was under allied control and even if the enemy flew in, using their own refueling tankers to refuel, the pair of the stealthy F-22s flying somewhere nearby would engage them and hopefully destroy them before the enemy bothered Dell. Afterall, that was the purpose of F-22. It was an air dominance fighter, and the ones flying nearby were armed for air to air combat. The deadliest of aircrafts to face, were protecting Dell. And he himselves was delievering a deadly punch to his target.
Dell and his wingman weren't the only ones flying an easy mission today. There was another pair of Eurofighters with nearly identical task. The difference was obviously in their targets. This pair was given targets in Yaskhona, along with secondary and bonus targets in the region North of it. Another pair, had targets in Yaskhona with secondary and bonus targets in region South of it. They were provided cover by another pair of F-22s. There was another pair of Eurofighters flying half air-to-air and half air-to-ground weapon loadout. These were tasked with targets in and around Damev. Two pairs of A-10s, were flying along the coast and nearby regions with their own groups of targets. One was flying the coastline from near Yaskhona heading South, while the other was heading North past Port of Sails.
All of the fighters were provided AWACS support by three Gulfstream G550 aircraft flying the advanced Phalcon systems. They would not only provide updates on the targets and missions, but were also responsible for guiding the Raptors to any of the enemies that do show up.
Action in the Waters
Captain John Border whistled as he brought his ship with gun range of Makaronan. One would think that he was so close that he could infact just order his men to take up firearms and jump out of the ship, onto the docks and take over the city. But for now, he had other plans. Well, not his plans, but tasks that he was assigned from Him. First, he fired a salvo of Tomahawks into the enemy territory, with pre-determined targets in their computers. Those missiles quickly dissappeared in the east over the city of Makaronan. Then, he started his guns off at whatever part of Makaronan came into range.
X-2 destroyer was also seeing plenty of action. With her being near Port of Sails, several Token ships were being blown up, irrespective of what they were doing. Be it a commerical tanker, or a small private fishing boat, if it belonged to the enemy, it was being attacked and sunk.
Action on the grounds
With the airfield at Yaskhona under control, the AH-64D helicopters, along with the AC-130 gunship, were tasked with suppression of enemy forces in the region. Infact, within minutes of take off, their order was changed to search and destroy all non-allied forces, be it military or otherwise. That meant, if any enemy unit was trying to escape death by hiding amongst the civilian population, it was of no use, as they were to be killed as well. When all was going to be said and done, any Token found was to be eliminated. Let there be a summon in the courts for such killings of civilian population. This mercenary force was not going to give a freaking cent to the enemy. Its purpose is simle. Total destruction of enemy. Annihilation.
Summary
Under 24-hour rule, majority of Yaskhona, Port of Sails, Makaronan and Damev is ruble.
The airfield at Yaskhona is mine.
What buildings do remain standing in the three cities (except Makaronan) are being bombed further. 8 bombs per city + some strafing.
For Makaronan, let me know if this is a village/town like the other three, or a proper modern city. Accordingly I'll edit this post to let you know how the missiles I fired (five) are targeted. If you don't tell me, then i'll 24-hour you to claim that Makaronan is utterly and completely destroyed.. or something worse.
Also, bombing of targets in the country side. Like heavy machinery and dyes industry (MCS map says you got some in the region). A couple of bonus targets, like say dams (MCS map says you one hydro power station in the region), important road/bridge/rail stuff, ammunition storage, food storage etc...
Secret move to be PMed to Judges.
I am not 24-houring the 'stolen' stuff, as that's being disputed.
Edit:
Forgot to mention, the A-10s are flying along the coastal region, destroying any targets of opportunity (since your nation seems to be village-era one, i can't think/name a particular target). A destroyer is destroying all ships belonging to enemy nations near the Port of Sails, be it a large commerical tanker or a small private fishing boat. Further, the helicopters and gunship are searching for any non-mercenary unit and killing them. Basically, I am searching for survivors (military or civilian) in the city of Yaskhona and killing them.
Second Edit:
Now that I know Makaronan is a modern city, the first salvo destroys facilities providing electrical power and communication to the city. At least a significant percentage of fire fighting services are destroyed as well (usually, some fire trucks and crews stay on patrol in the city and these escaped destruction). This all was from the first attack (which I 24-houred).
The new attack, as mentioned above, is five missiles aimed at: water purification / desalination plants (2 missiles), sewage plants (2 missiles), and an important bridge (if you have any) or the largest railway/metro station (1 missile). Please let me know what you have in your city, so I can adjust my strike accordingly.

Re: Official War Thread
OOC: Did you work out how much of Damev you could feasibly destroy? Remember, as North pointed out earlier, it's a large mountain ....
For further reference, here's Yashkona (lucky you took helicopters to get up those mountains). You've definitely qualified for war crimes. Good work attacking the only two regions led by Novatainian citizens. Though 370 men all up is going to take a while to slaughter even a small city ....
EDIT: Might as well do my land move in this post anyway, even if Andreas can't respond because Prodigy hasn't.
OOC: I have limited knowledge, and have trying to search wikipedia to determine if those two units DO have heat/vehicle seeking missiles. It would seem stupid if they don't ... but if they don't, ignore that part of my attack.

Summary: My artillery/rocket units fire off heat seeking missiles at the northenmost end of the trench you're digging on, Scott (as reported by earlier flyovers from Nick). They're hoping to take out your heavy construction machinery and perhaps make a small dint in your forces, to discourage you from attacking further. A huge wide trench (if it's what I think it's for) is not going to be much help against such missiles, if it's to be effective for what I think it's for. After firing off a couple rounds there (and hoping it's effective), they aim at area between the top of the northernmost trench and the river, attempting to break it to flood the trench. Hopefully breaking it when you're not ready helps disrupt your plans ... (if you're only digging at the bottom end of that, assume my vehicles fire at the bottom end, then move up, then fire later at the top end). Also assume I've started firing about a half an hour after you've started digging, whatever time of night that is.Mel'Kat was not yet back. Which left Ben with the responsibility of doing SOMETHING to stop the Hyperboreans. He chose to go with the friendly option. If their big digs were what he thought they'd be for, they'd be so big they'd be impractical for defence. He'd had clear reports they were using commandeered construction equipment - at night too, when it's heat would show up more. And heat was what Ben was looking for. He had 50 M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System and 50 M109a6 Paladin Artillery - a hundred things capable of firing missiles, in all. And they were within range of Provost (Scott, range is 30+km if you were wondering, so no, you can't shoot back with guns ). All that remained was to select targets.
"You're sure the other towns on Provost are on the far side of the island?" Ben asked, for the twelth time.
"Quite sure, Sir," the man in charge of the Artillery replied. "And we're aiming at the top half of the trench - so not even near Nang."
"Well then, you know what to do ..." Ben replied.
"Very good sir. I'll take it from here," the man said. He spoke a few commands from his radio, and then the artilleries in front of Ben began to fire. Ben sighed. And this was only the friendly option
OOC: I have limited knowledge, and have trying to search wikipedia to determine if those two units DO have heat/vehicle seeking missiles. It would seem stupid if they don't ... but if they don't, ignore that part of my attack.

Re: Official War Thread
I just had an extremely bad day of driving through ice storms and it's too late to be creative. But, in the general interest of moving stuff along, I'll write a summary now and do the actual storytelling tomorrow after I've had a night's rest. I do have some fun things in store though so read this post later when I have a chance to edt it.
Edit: story up
Summary: the ICBM surprise attack is partially successful. Several of the missiles are intercepted by swarm seeker missiles, but due to an equipment malfunction, two ICBMs come very close to direct impact. One is intercepted only a few short feet off the Omen's surface; though not an actual hit, the blast is close enough to shake up the craft up and knocks out some local equipment, sensors, and weaponry. The other ICBM is avoided by an emergency dive that drops the Omen several hundred feet to barely dodge the missile, though the Omen is still at extreme altitude above cloud level. The incombing enemy air force is detected on long-range scanners and Nick's air force is given green lights for immediate launch to engage. Long-range bomardment of the battleships below the cloud level continues
Regarding what Nick said: though you had some plans of your own waiting for me, your fleet is still under attack by the omen's long-range weaponry and has been since my last post. I'm not sure how much time is going on in this battle yet but do assume that, unless you move your fleet well out of range, eventually they're going to take some direct hits. I'll let you decide for yourself exactly what that means.
Edit: story up
“Enemy missile launch!†one of the crew at a scanning station reported. Immediately a din arrupted upon the bridge.
Nickleson exerted his authority as vice-captain to yell out a sharp “Location?†Somewhat abruptly, all other voices stopped.
The original scannerman said, “Not sure, sir. Not the fleet we’re shooting at. Somewhere further northeast. I’m unable to pinpoint the exact location.â€
Nickleson frowned and said, “It can wait. Get my intel on those missiles.â€
“Already done, sir,†another scanner reported. “Coming onscreen now. Four missiles counted. Estimated time until impact: one minute, thirty seconds.â€
Pictures of relatively fat warheads appeared onscreen. Nickleson whistled. “PRH. They’re shooting ICBMs at us. The arrogance.â€
“ICBMs?†Areuhat asked.
Harvey was a bit taken aback Areuhat didn’t know what ICBMs were. Still, there was a time for cutting remarks against your friends about their apparent lack of relevant military knowledge. Being shot at by four simultaneous ICBMs wasn’t the time.
Nickleson picked up the explanation. “They’re long-range, high-yield missiles that sacrifice tracking power for greater damage. They’re normally used against large immobile targets, like enemy camps. Apparently they don’t think we can dodge something like that.â€
“CAN we dodge something like that?†Harvey jumped in. “It takes a bit of time to get the engines warmed up, and we only have like a minute left.â€
“You’re right. Swarm pod seekers it is. Fire stations 14, 15, 16, and 17,†said Nickleson.
“Sir, sections 16 and 17 are offline due to mechanical error.â€
“Right. 13, 14, 15, and 18 then.â€
“Sir,†was the only reply.
Swarm pod seekers were the Omen’s main anti-missile and anti-aircraft weapons. From what Harvey understood, four initial missiles were fired in the direction of the enemy. After a certain amount of time, each missile would explode weakly, scattering the swarm pods attached to it in all directions while simultaneously activating their own tracking systems. The result was widespread chaos. Each individual seeker didn’t have too much in the ways of tracking, but they were halfway maneuverable, and even the most skilled pilot would be playing a losing game against a large number of them.
The interlude helped distract Harvey from the tension. At 30 seconds to impact two of the ICBMs blinked off the screen. Two persisted in their existence though.
“I think it’s safe to assume that the swarm pods failed to deal with those two,†Nickleson said quietly.
“Any other options, then?†Areuhat prompted. Harvey felt it too. The seconds literally were ticking by.
“Just take it, I guess. The Omen is rumored to withstand a direct nuclear attack,†said Nickleson.
“Can’t we fire the swarm pods again?†Harvey asked.
“Not done reloading, sir,†came a reply from one of the consoles.
“15 seconds until impact. I’d suggest bracing for the hit, sir,†came another voice.
Suddenly, Harvey said, “Cut the engines. We’ll perform an emergency dive.â€
“Saftey protocols prohibit-“ came a voice.
“Captain override!†Harvey said as he slammed his hand on a green panel. “Do it!â€
“Five seconds!â€
The Captain override was designed to be the ultimate security-breaker. As long as Harvey’s hand (or anyone’s hand really, but anyone but the captain using it was absolutely prohibited except in the most dire emergencies) was on that green panel, any command inputted from the bridge would be followed by the computers regardless of withstanding security and safety protocols. If misused, even without ill content, a lot of damage could be done to the ship as those protocols were usually there for good reasons. It had taken Harvey nearly four hours of vicious swearing and frustration to get the system online during the weeks of preparation.
As the Omen gave a terrible lurch and Harvey felt the sensation of freefall, he knew it was worth it.
A few seconds into the dive an explosion went off, throwing the bridge crew wildly and dislodging Harvey’s hand from the panel. It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly what forces of physics were pushing people around in the resulting chaos, nor exactly how much time had passed, but eventually everyone found themselves on the ground in one place or another with the freefall sensation gone.
“Damage report,†Nickleson said while tending what appeared to be an injured knee.
The crews fumbled to get back in their consoles. One of them reported, “Large impact in sector 28-LL. Our sensors in the area seem to be offline. Exact damage unknown. From the equipment surrounding it though I’d say it was not a direct hit. Somehow…†he trailed off.
“One of the swarm pods must have intercepted the ICBM before it hit the hull directly. I guess we dodged the other one,†Harvey mused.
“Get a full damage control crew to sector 22-LL at once,†Nickleson said. And, as an afterthought, “Also, get me a report on the engines. I need to know if the dive damaged anything.â€
Another voice called out, “Sir! New hostiles. We have aircraft approaching. Estimated time until their arrival: 10 minutes.â€
“Guh,†Harvey guhed. “We’re the bad boy here. We shouldn’t be the one taking all the hits. Stabilize our position. Altert Nicholas’s fighters for immediate prep and launch. And, for the love of the stars above, can someone in the gunnery shoot down a blasted battleship?!â€

Unless you attack me in three hours, you will be PWNED."You heard the man, we have to make sure the civies aren't blown up."
"So I want the city completely fortified, trenches on the outside too. Put the carriers in the city centre and be ready to intercept or receive wounded. I want teams at every 45 degrees, watches rotate at 3,6,9 & 12. Everyone get some rest, and try to get the civies indoors before we start. In the three hours prep time; delta squad will be guarding. Gotit? MOOOOVEOUT!"
Summary; I'm just following orders.
It didn't fit in my avatar...
