Bobalania 1-1 Craitland (AET) (2-3 penalties)
Le Temple, Crécy
Craitland held-on by the skin of their teeth to push this one-sided contest with Bobalania to penalties and keep their dream of a third consecutive title alive.
A no-score bore draw in the original ninety minutes saw only a few chances on goal, all of which fell to Bobalania. Craitland's best effort was a Yaqin Senovichi attempt from over thirty yards which dipped onto the roof of Matthew Bailey's net in the second half. Bobalania created a couple of good chances, which, if luck were on their side, they could have scored from. Sam Hyeland headed against the bar from Mark Qwerty's corner, midway through the first half, and Luís Liotta had his rasping shot from the edge of the area blocked on the line by Paulio Demhivo.
Into extra-time and Bobalania maintained their onslaught of the Craitish defence, eventually getting a just reward in the second half. Mark Norman beat Jack Vorgensen at the second attempt during a goal-line scramble from two yards. Luís Liotta swung in a deep cross which Vorgensen punched out, but not away, and Sam Hyeland hit a reaction shot which deflected off Demhivo to Norman. The Middlestock AFC forward struck the ball into the diving Vorgensen's legs and was first to react to the rebound to toe-poke the ball into the half-empty net for 1-0. Five minutes later, Craitland had sprung a surprise and equalised. Yaqin Senovichi took control of the ball inside his own half and found space to run into, and after evading Lee Bowie's tackle, laid the ball out to Markko Edmildón. The Hänävissen-ó-Cräiteland winger beat Billy Bobagota for pace and knocked the ball in from the by-line. Senovichi, who had continued his run, met the cross on the volley on the corner of the area and hit the ball across goal. The shot dipped, fooled Matthew Bailey and unexpectedly went in off the far post. As the referee whistled for time minutes later, the dreaded penalty shootout was ominous.

Beaugium 3-2 Tellia
Stade de Loup, Ville d'Alain
A brave Tellian fightback wasn't enough to overturn Beaugium's three first-half goals and the 2006 champions take one step closer to winning it again.
Three goals in a rapid-fire end to the first half all but sealed Beaugium's semi-final place before Tellia attempted a comeback which they ran out of time to complete. Phil Phillipson and Steve Stevenson got the scoring off to a start, setting each other up for easy goals against Fabrizio Daniello after finding gaps in the Tellian defence. Phillipson nutmegged Daniello from six yards with the Zidado West United 'keeper closing-down and Stevenson sidefooted past him from slightly further out. Eddie Edwardson got Beaugium's third after cutting his run inside and curling low through the crowd and past Daniello's left-side dive.
Tellia got both of their goals in the last fifteen minutes as they eventually managed to break-down the strong Beaugian defence, although it was too-little-too-late as the equaliser never came. Piero Donetti pulled one back to give the Tellians a fleeting chance fourteen minutes from time, beating James Jameson with his first touch receiving Luca Riviera's pass and curling it past Fred Fredericksen from close-range. Vincenzo Motta headed his side's second with just over five minutes remaining. The aging winger met Riviera's long corner at the back post and squeezed it past Rob Robertson on the line. However, Tellia hadn't the time to create another meaningful chance and Beaugium played-out the game to seal their advancement.

Alexandria 3-1 Craitland
Stade de Loup, Ville d'Alain
Alexandria comfortably beat 2007 and 2008's winners Craitland to advance to their first World Cup final at the fourth time of asking.
After having to work extra hard in the quarter-final against Bobalania to advance to this stage, the Craitish players looked tired when compared to the Alexandrians playing on hame turf. Alexandria, as expected after dominating possession, took the lead halfway through the first half through yet another Florent Lassana-Traoré goal. The Club Imperiale striker getting his sixth of the competition, heading in unmarked right in the centre of the Craitish box from a Damián Sala corner. Craitland equalised on the counter-attack against the run of play ten minutes later, however. Lassana-Traoré met another Sala corner with his head but Jack Vorgensen was right behind it and cleared the ball quickly downfield to Manta Pellegrino. The Craitish captain beat Manuel Pagazo before laying the ball back to Yaqin Senovichi, who took it into the area before chipping it over Rémi Marin as the Joya City Jaguars 'keeper approached. Paul Óma-ó-Täó was ready and waiting in the area to finish-off the move into an empty net with a right-footed volley from six yards. Alexandria had every right to feel slightly hard done by when the half-time whistle blew.
Alexandria turned their possession into goals in the second half and ran-away convincing winners eventually after the initial Craitish scare. Twelve minutes after the break, "Les Bleus" forced themselves back into the lead with a persistant attack that was finished by a Khalid Mohamed first-time hit from near the penalty spot after receiving Sébastien Focán's lay-back. Not too long after, Mohamed again made it 3-1 and virtually game over. Focán it was who instigated the attack, spraying the ball out to the left wing where Samuel Jean controlled it and went past Jon Larsen before laying it off to Mohamed. The Baudrix Bears forward took two touches to turn Paulio Demhivo on the edge of the area and lashed the ball low past Jack Vorgensen's right-sided dive. The remaining twenty-five minutes saw Alexandria continue to dominate the Craits and could have extended their lead even further if it weren't for an excellent reflex save in the last ten minutes by Vorgensen from Lassana-Traoré's tight-angled shot.
A mixture of a lack of time and being outplayed by the hosts meant Craitland couldn't fashion any more chances and drop into the third-place play-off while Alexandria go on to the final, hoping that home advantage can help them just one more, extremely important, time.

Nova England 1-0 Beaugium
Stade Royale, Geneva
Nova England become the second World Cup final débutants this competition with a narrow victory over Beaugium in Geneva.
After twelve goals in four games, Beaugium came-up short in this semi-final and their drought was taken advantage of by Nova England but only after most of the game was deadlocked. Beaugium created the more chances in the cagey first half, with Steve Stevenson seeing his curling free-kick tipped just around the post by Paul Larkin and Ed Edwardson firing inches wide with a looping shot from his left side.
The second half was more open and both teams had the same amount of chances before the goal, with Stevenson going closest for Beaugium, his shot straight at Larkin, and Nova England having Ka'an Peterson's shot deflected wide off namesake Pete Peterson. The breakthrough came within the last ten minutes when Peterson had another shot put behind for a corner, this time by 'keeper Fred Frederickson, and captain Marcus Downs sent the resulting corner in. The cross was overhit slightly and came to Richard Jones on the left who swung in another cross, with his weaker foot, himself. Jones' ball in beat James Jameson and Callum Sorrel met it with a perfectly-placed sweet header from eight yards which Frederickson had no answer to. After the celebrations that followed, Beaugium had no time to rearrange themselves to muster a meaningful comeback and Nova England reached their first ever World Cup final.
Nova England advance to face the much-fancied Alexandria in the final, whereas Beaugium go into the third-place play-off against fellow Group D'ers Craitland.

Craitland 5-2 Beaugium
Stade de Loup, Ville d'Alain
A match with less goals than their Group D clash saw Craitland run-out eventual winners by three to claim third place.
The 2007 and 2008 champions dominated the 2006 winners in the first half of play, ending it 3-1 up. Craitland took the lead after a quarter of an hour through Tommy Hjansen, who sweeped Markko Edmildón's low cross in at the near post after the Hänävissen-ó-Cräiteland winger had beaten Rob Robertson to the ball. Beaugium equalised against the run of play, with their first chance of the game, seven minutes later when Phil Phillipson looped a header over Jon Larsen on the line after meeting Ed Edwardson's accurate out-swinging corner. It wasn't long until Craitland were back in the lead again, Freddie Gaärsen finding his familiar shooting boots from just inside the box after latching-on first time to Toby Vorgensen's through-ball and beating Fred Frederickson with a low shot. Hjaņ Herä made it 3-1 just before the break, scoring only his second ever international goal, curling in a fantastic left-footed shot into Frederickson's top-right corner after controlling the rebound from Gaärsen's free-kick.
Craitland made two changes at half-time, swapping their front line of Tommy Hjansen and Freddie Gaärsen for Paul Óma-ó-Täó and Zen Daviddlaw, respectively, while Beaugium brought Sam Samson on for Steve Stevenson. The Beaugian substitution was the first to make its mark, when Samson made it 3-2 before the flow of the first half could be restored. Beaugium restarted the match and moved swiftly through to score their second before no more than three Craitish players could have a touch of the ball. Samson it was who ended the move, tapping-in from three yards as Phillipson's initial shot past Vorgensen looked to be rolling wide. The Craitish responded to this threat to their lead by pushing forward more, as they had in the first half, and passing the ball around. Yaqin Hjansen received the only yellow card of the game on the hour when he took-out Sam Samson as the Sirap Slitherers striker was running down the wing. Substitute Paul Óma-ó-Täó restored his country's two-goal advantage just after the sixty-five minute mark. The Osĵätoņ Aztecs man dribbled past James Jameson and Pete Peterson before side-footing into Frederickson's goal as the AFC Heartpool 'keeper narrowed the angle. Óma-ó-Täó got his second of the game at the start of stoppage time when he headed third subsitute Hänä Zensen's cross down into the bottom-left corner of the goal from the middle of the area, with Frederickson having no chance of stopping the score becoming 5-2.
Craitland convincingly take third place after their knock-out stage stumbles while Beaugium can look back at a highly-successful tournament, with it being their first since crashing-out at the 2007 group stage after winning it in 2006.

*Played 24/10/09*The Final - Alexandria vs. Nova England
International Superdome, Ponce
So here we are, the big one. After an exciting World Cup, albeit somewhat unintentionally delayed, we're here in Ponce for the 2009 final!
Alexandria, the hosts, have exceeded expectations with a completely home-based squad and impressively got this far, with stand-out victories against Novatainia (5-0) in their group, and 2007 and 2008 winners Craitland (3-1) in the semi-finals.
Nova England, on the other hand, have not done things as straight-forward as Alexandria, scraping their way to the final, but wins against 2006 winners Beaugium (1-0) and last year's runners-up Passas (2-1 AET), both in the knock-out stages, have proved their grit and determination to go on.
The style of Alexandria up against the hard-working Nova English is sure to create a game to remember!
Alexandria 2-0 Nova England
International Superdome, Ponce
Alexandria became the first ever FMF World Cup hosts to win the tournament after a hard, but well-earned, win over Nova England.
The start of the first half was a cagy affair, with both teams taking their time to get used to the ball, pitch and occasion, and calm any nerves. The first real shot of the game came twenty minutes in, with Ka'an Peterson's shot from length going straight into Rémi Marin's arms. Nova England it was who created the most chances in the first half, but Alexandria went closest only a few minutes after the Nova English's opening effort. Florent Lassana-Traoré, the tournament's top scorer, grazed the post with a header from the edge of the box after meeting Damián Sala's cross. Nova England 'keeper Paul Larkin was well beaten by the Club Imperiale forward's attempt, but was grateful to see the ball nick the post as it went just wide.
Nova England's best chances off the first half fell to Ka'an Peterson, who, after his earlier shot straight at Marin, curled a free-kick only a couple of inches over after half an hour's play. A good passing move involving the whole of the Nova English midfield was followed-up by Peterson laying the ball out to Callum Sorrel on the left. The AFC Heartpool striker took a couple of touches inside looking for another player to receive a pass but was brought down by a wild Cyril Kopaczewski tackle. The Alexandrian defender with Interlandian descent was given a yellow and Peterson lined-up to take the free-kick from 23 yards out. Peterson, who plays alongside Sorrel at club level as well, struck the free-kick over the Alexandrian wall, but the ball's curl and dip wasn't enough to take it under the bar and it hit the roof of the net with Marin stretching. Peterson also volleyed a shot four feet wide of the post from inside the area just before the break, meeting a strong Marcus Downs knock-back which came to him too quickly to control the shot. Alexandria also created a few clear-cut chances, but they were all atypically squandered. Florent Lassana-Traoré went closest when he had his attempted chip caught by Larkin with ten minutes left of the half.
After the break, Nova England continued their well-worked attacks and were unlucky to only get a free-kick when Peterson was fouled by Ibrahim Diarra right on the edge of the area within the first ten minutes of the half. The resulting free-kick was hit straight into the wall and Alexandria were free to counter-attack. The attack was fast, accurate and outplayed the Nova English players who stayed back. The ball was quickly worked to Damián Sala on the right, who brought the ball inside but was tackled by John Cesear. Florent Lassana-Traoré was first to react to the loose ball and slotted a clinical side-footed shot past Larkin, who had no time to try and save it, from ten yards out. The home crowd went crazy and Lassana-Traoré celebrated his seventh of the competition with a stylish knee-slide by the corner flag.
Nova England restarted after the goal and looked as shaky as they did at the start of the match after conceding a goal against the run of play. A lot of possession belonged to the Nova English for the nest few passages of play, with the team reassuring themselves and trying to regain their earlier momentum. They managed to create an opportunity just before the hour, but Sorrel could only hit his edge-of-the-box shot into the stands. Alexandria began to play with a bit more of a swagger after their opener and almost doubled their lead with just under twenty minutes left when Tamer Modrem struck a beautiful shot from 35 yards which Larkin did well to dive low to his left to tip around the post. The resulting corner was headed inches over by Khalid Mohamed.
Into the last fifteen minutes of the final, and both teams made changes. Alexandria took off Olympique Crécy's Samuel Jean and replaced the winger with attacking midfielder, and club teammate, Gonzalo Mascaroni. Midfielder Peter Nelson and defender Joseph Slatter were substituted for striker Alex Kiker and midfielder Comen le Barte, respectively, for Nova England. Alexandria also brought Daniel Taleva on for Khalid Mohamed with eight minutes remaining in a like-for-like swap upfront.
Comen le Barte, usually an unused substitute for Nova England, tried his hardest to make the best of his chance of playing in the World Cup final and didn't disappoint. The currently unattached midfielder took control of the ball with ten minutes left and beat both Tamer Modrem and Frédéric du Clerc for pace before delivering a brilliant cross in from the left. Nova England could have equalised if Ka'an Peterson had been braver with his header, which only glanced the ball across the face of Marin's goal and out for a goal kick. The last five minutes of the game were highly tense, with Alexandria trying their best to hold-on to their narrow lead and Nova England attempting to force any mistakes on which they could capitalise to get a leveller.
Nova England went as close as they had in the entire game one minute from time. Sorrel forced a late corner when Marin touched the striker's low shot behind. Nova English players swarmed the Alexandrian box in desperation as captain Marcus Downs flighted in a marvellous corner right into the area. Alex Kiker, an ex-Riponian who became Nova English after Riponia's demise, rose higher than anyone else and angled a header towards the far post. His header beat Rémi Marin but agonisingly crashed off the crossbar as Frédéric du Clerc, who was on the post, was completely grounded and nowhere near the Xäiville Teflons striker's effort. As the ball rebounded down and out off the bar, Kopaczewski cleared it first time. The Olympique Crécy centre-back found Sala with his ball out, who beat John Cesear on the wing. Sala ran the ball down the line, hoping that one of his teammates would back him up. Max Herbert, Nova England's remaining centre-back on the pitch, had both Florent Lassana-Traoré and Daniel Taleva to deal with, both of whom are considerably more pacy. Sala came inside and as Larkin began to close him, he laid the ball across. His squared ball was too far infront of Lassana-Traoré but fell perfectly to Taleva's left boot and the ex-Leon and Venezia forward, who is now based at San Martin Conquistadors, hit a fantastic first-time shot. From twenty yards out, and to the left of the arc, his shot had great power and a slight curve on it which took it past Larkin's dive, flicked the 'keeper's right-hand post and rippled the back of the net. Taleva collapsed with his arms outstretched after the shot went in and his teammates bundled him in an emotional celebration.
The Nova English had two minutes of injury time after the restart to at least get a consolation goal, but barely managed to get the ball out of their own half before the final whistle blew. The Alexandrians were elated upon hearing the whistle but the Nova England players were unconsolable, especially Alex Kiker as his unfortunate missed header was what led to the Alexandrians' decisive second goal.
With the stadium's atmosphere at a deafening high, Alexandria captain Sébastien Focán, who came out of international retirement for the 2009 FMF World Cup, lifted the cup in his home country.
